Auto Stop Start
Does anybody elses Stop Start never kick in. I've had my car about a year and not once has it come on. The sign on the dash always has the line through it to indicate the car isn't ready to use Stop Start.
It's not disabled, it just never seems to hit the criteria to work. Tried different driving modes etc... Not actually that bothered as I don't really want it to work as previous experience tells me it's a feature that leads to premature battery wear. |

For an automatic transmission car has to be in "D", not "S" or "M". For manuals, the transmission must be in neutral and the clutch pedal not pressed. I don't believe driving mode has any impact on its functionality. It also requires the drivers seat belt to be buckled.
If you don't meet one of those criteria but the system is enabled, you will see the error you are referring to.

I've a manual and meet all the conditions. I know it won't do it if the car isn't at the right temperature but again I've tried on varying length journeys to no avail.

My B58 start/stop works in Comfort mode any time after the first mile of driving. It works in Sport as well because I have Sport set to chassis only, and Sport+ chassis and drivetrain.

I hate auto start stop and never used it. It's annoying and doesn't save that much fuel. When I owned my 228ix i drove in sport mode most of the time. When I find my M235 it will be driven the same way. Whats Eco mode???

Consider yourself fortunate like Sportstick said. Most BMW's have mediocre stop start systems. Only car I actually leave it on in is my CLS but even that is only because it has a mild-hybrid system that eliminates any and all lag from the system and awkward transitioning that a typical stop start system has.

When I first bought my car, used, it never auto stopped either. I soon started getting an occasional warning for battery discharge. After a little detective work I found that the battery cables were very loose. Now it always auto stops if I don't have it disabled. btw, my battery is original, 6 years old.

But a mild-hybrid? yeah. Start stop makes a lot more sense when you're talking a big enough electric motor to move the whole vehicle on a regular basis. And obviously the system works a lot more seamlessly. |

This has been happening to me of late too. Had mine (2014 m235i, 6mt) for 6 years, know its auto stop/start behavior well; for the last 3-4 months, it virtually never occurs as it used to.
Battery tested fine. Will check the connections and report back. |

Default programming has it is off in comfort/sport/sport+ but activates automatically in eco pro mode, right? Can also be turned ON to run in comfort mode too if you please, but is automatically switched OFF when changing modes into SPORT/SPORT+ . That's been my experience anyway.

Well I did go for a drive today and here is what I found out.
Auto SS is considered OFF if the light in on and Enabled if the light is out. If I start out in comfort mode with the light on (AS/S off) is stays off in Sport+ and Sport but it is Enabled in Eco. However if I disable it in Eco it stays OFF in eco mode. If I go from Eco with it enabled back to any mode it goes OFF and stays off until I return to Eco. If I start out with it Enabled in Comfort it stays Enabled in any mode until I disable it. |

Mine works most of the time but when it doesn't there seems to be no reason. I am re-thinking using mine since an additional 10 stop and starts a day don't really seem to be a good idea, and the gas and pollution savings are small.

I used to never use it but since getting a catless downpipe, I don't use it to save gas but to reduce some of the smell I have MSA on.
