Weather strip on chassis missing

While cleaning my car I noticed that a weather strip between the front fender and the door frame is missing on the driver's side of my M235i. This could be a reason for wind and road noise complaints. I visited the dealer and found some BMWs on the lot with the weather strips and others without them. My car has one on the passenger side only.

Does anyone else have these weather strips installed on their cars?

EDIT:
Most people have agreed that the seals have decreased noise in the cabin. The seals are available for as low as $9.45 each.
Left side part- #51-48-7-348-779
Right side part- #51-48-7-348-780

Many have reported that there are other part numbers coming up in a parts search. Order the ones that you like, but the seals with the part numbers listed above will work for the coupe and I assume for the convertible.

New Edit:
I added a piece of weather stripping between where this one ends and where the upper door jam seal begins. It helps with air noise at higher speeds.

Mine is a 2016 M235i, maybe it is a model issue fix?

My 2015 doesn't have it on either side, but I would like to have them. My dealer's parts guy also found them listed but they are not "mastered" (his term) and have no pricing nor number. I took the OP's photos and sent them to the dealer so he could see what I'm asking about. He is taking those photos and emailing them to BMWNA so he can find out how and when we can get them and pricing. Seems they will be available, but some patience may be needed. OP can likely make a case for a misbuild on one side and get it without charge, but earlier builds probably have to buy them. I imagine they make a difference in wind noise, otherwise it would be very unlikely to add cost from the OE's perspective in the 3rd year of production.

Part info is:

Driver side: 51-48-7-300-693 Price: $23.63
Passenger side: 51-48-7-300-694 Price: $22.96

I have a set on order. Having been a product planner at an automotive, I am fairly confident that these will have a beneficial effect. Basic product planning is to launch year one with the "best foot forward", year two is stable as engineering changes from launch year are made, and awareness/volume continues to build. But, it is also product planning 101 that cost reductions should be found and typically start mid-way through a cycle, such as year 3. For them to add cost and weight with "unsexy" parts in year 3 tells me these parts are addressing a concern and should make a noticeable difference in vehicle NVH.

I have no idea. The P/N and price were the only new information. We'll see in a couple of weeks when they arrive. I am scheduling a dealer service installation.

SportStick,
Thanks for digging up that part number. I called a dealership nearby and asked them to order the part. He was able to look it up, but there was 0 inventory in the US or Germany. Could you tell me where you were able to order it?

Call Erhard BMW of Farmington Hills at 248-876-9247. Ask for Jason Wallis in Parts. He is now their expert on these parts! They have mailed parts to me in the past, so if you order from him, he can likely send them to you when they finally arrive. He did say it could be a few weeks, but since yesterday, he had spoken with BMW and the parts are orderable.

The forum is great indeed; BMW (both in the US and in the EU) - not so much. Becasue - in addition to how can I source this part - there is another, more important question:

- should this seal be present when buying anew vehicle or not? Perhaps jsut one, as we should show some solidarity with the poor guys from Munich...

What beneficial effect would they have? If water and wind are not coming in through the door, seems like slapping these on would be a waste of time and effort.

They don't give the appearance of being water proof. But, the 2 Series has not been particularly known for absence of wind noise. These most likely address that issue, as they block an obvious channel. That is my speculation of course, but I can assure you that they would not have been added at this point in the program to the base configuration if they had no beneficial effect. A Program Manager would not sign off on the cost or additional assembly operation.

Can't say I have noticed wind noise, but I rarely go above 80. I guess it may help when you get your car washed and go to towel dry it there may be fewer water droplets in the door crevices to have to dry off

Those sealing parts are on the ETK for diesel F22 in order to encapsulate engine and not spread its disgraceful sound...

F20 114d LCI I had from dealership during last service had them.

I noticed too that my M235i doesn't have them.

Maybe there is no need to have them on M235i...

Keep us informed with your testing

My 228 is pretty quiet imo. Only gets a little noisy when it's windy outside.

Will do!

Meanwhile, note the OP's car is also a M235i and has one side installed, likely a mis-build as the part was launched...different operators on each side of the car in the Trim/Chassis/Final part of the assembly line. Also, the part is released for North America where there is no diesel 2 Series.

To add another data point, my very early production 2016 M235i does not have these on either side.

No particular wind noise complaints, at least below 140mph or so.
