How long from production #/order received to date for production?
Just curious what others had for an experience. How long from production #/order received to date for production? My dealer keeps saying I'll have a car by late November/early December, but I still don't have a production date, just a number. Seems early December is very unlikely at this point. Thoughts?

All I can say is I placed the order in August (24th). The allocation all along was for a week 42 build. It was built in week 42 (October 15th to be exact) and is still waiting at the factory for transport to the departure port. Have you made an account at "My BMW" and entered your production #? I did as soon as I got it and it seemed to take for ever to update and reflect changes. It sat at "Your car has entered the production queue" for over two weeks then it started moving.

Your dealers status sheet should show on the right side the targeted production week. Here was my timeline:
Ordered against a week 42 M240i xDrive allocation on August 24 Got the production number on September 20 logged on to My BMW Showed "order received" status until end of Sept then went to "Scheduled for Production" Received VIN. Entered the Production Queue on 10/2 then jumped three slots to "Assembly in Progress" on 10/15. Then jumped two slots to "Ready for Transport" on 10/16. Now it is stuck on "Awaiting Carrier Assignment". Update 10/22: It has been dispatched from the factory now I have to wait for a ship. Last edited by jzeiler4; 10-22-2020 at 05:55 PM.. |

Congrats on the car moving along. Mine just moved to scheduled for production. The dealer wouldn't/didn't get more specific than being built in November. The screen shot the sent me from their system only shows November. Regardless, still moving along....

Mine sat at "awaiting carrier assignment" for a week then it was "dispatched from the factory" for 4 days now it is "at the port". Pretty soon I'll be drivin' that thing. Been watching the parking lot web cam at the port gradually filling up with cars. Mine is one of them.

Dispatched from the factory means just that it has left the factory in Leipzig and is headed for the port at Bremerhaven. Last edited by jzeiler4; 10-28-2020 at 07:49 AM.. |

I'm reminded of when we did European Delivery on a Volvo V70R in 2006, dropping it off in Gothenburg for port entry at Newark after a couple of months touring Europe.
After drop-off, I assumed everything would proceed smoothly from there. That didn't happen; thankfully, it wasn't an issue for us. I discovered the lack of smoothness six weeks after the V70R arrived in Newark, when our North Carolina salesman (we lived in New Hampshire at the time) called to ask me how much I was enjoying my new Volvo wagon in Northern New England. After asking him what he was talking about, he hung up and got the car out of the lot in Newark and on its way to our local dealer. It was only funny because we didn't need the car, and, AFAIK, at the time had no way of tracking its progress. Maybe that was a good thing, I don't know.
