Square Snow Tires on Staggered Wheels
Tried to search for this, but as the title suggests, I don't know how to properly ask the question.
Ran into a dilemma today when I went to the dealer to have my snow tires mounted. I bought/brought (4) 225/40/18 Mich Alpin snows to be mounted on my [stock, staggered] 2020 240 xdrive vert wheels (225/40/18-front, 245/35/18-rears). Dealer wouldn't do it, saying I had the wrong tires. Called TireRack (where I bought them), and they said they would be fine. I don't know any better, and feel like I am stuck in the middle. Any input would be appreciated |

225/40-18 tyres are suitable for mounting on 7.5" to 9" wide wheels, so are no problem on the stock 18x7.5" wide front and 18x8.0" wide rear wheels. Just use a good tyre place to mount them if the dealer doesn't know what they are doing.

That's completely fine. I had that exact square Alpin 225/40R18 setup on my M235 RWD for 3 years. 225/40R18 is fine for an 8" wide rim and completely within Michelin's spec. The Alpin 225/40R18 are a bit narrower than the Michelin Pilot Super Sport 225/40R18 and significantly narrower than the 245/35R18 out back. The Alpin 225/40R18 will have a slightly stretched look on the 8" wide rim.
There shouldn't be any issues with the xdrive and tire height because these square tires. The 245/35R18 is fractionally shorter than the 225/40R18 and xdrive has no issues dealing with that. Go to Discount Tire or another tire shop and they'll mount them up, no questions asked I'm sure. My Alpin 225/40R18 lasted about 17K miles (three winters). I probably could have gotten another 3K out of them and I also drove pretty hard on them in the dry. I probably could have gotten 25K out of them if I drove nicer. I just went with staggered Michelin Pilot All Season 4 and I'm breaking them in now.
