The color choices of the 235 are really disappointing. I ordered a 228 with sport line and track package in large part because I wanted the orange. You would think with a car as sporty as the 235 BMW would have gotten a little more creative with the colors. EB is nice, but I'm just not a huge fan of blue cars in general. BMW seems to be sorta stuck in the black/white and 12 shades of grey color palette. Heck, they've even managed to put together a fairly boring set of colors for the MINI!

Generally only the wildest of cars (usually American made) will get more than the 50 shades of gray. And you can't blame manufacturers because most people don't buy those colors. Same reason we don't have high powered manual transmission diesel station wagons...let alone yellow ones.

If I recall all of these were the 8Speed Auto from factory. Good to see the engine and gearbox take the abuse. Now give me some technical highlights please

Maybe it's just me but even MINI which is promoted as (and IS) a fun car has pretty unexciting colors since BMW got into the act. They used to offer a bright yellow, dark purple, etc. The 2 Series is a beautiful, exciting car and deserves some exciting colors. The M235i and 228i Msport limit the colors even further which is why I chose to put the THP in a 228i and get the Valencia Orange. It's a matter of taste, but in my opinion shades of gray on that beautiful a car is like dressing Eva Langoria up in a moo moo.

How much would it cost to get a professional paint done in one of the racing colors? Any experience guys?
Likely cost prohibitive in addition to the car being cob magnet. But it is tempting for sure. |

To get an alpine white car and throw some colorful patches on it would not be terribly expensive but keep in mind when you're racing, the body work is destroyed frequently enough they don't spend much money on paint, especially for cars that get repainted every season. My friends Spec Miata would get seasonal paint changes in the garage. Mask off the parts you need to see out of and then spray the rest. Overspray? Ain't care. If you didn't want to destroy the resale value of the car with a bad spray job though you would be better off to consider a vinyl wrap job. A real spray job where the car is properly disassembled (so that door joints and other parts are properly painted will be thousands of dollars). You'd be better off trying to go the BMW Individual route, though they may never offer that service on the 2 series.
