Sorry, but Pisco sours rank right up there with that Matte shit. The mere fact it comes out of those funky idol-bottles doesn't help.

Sounds like you have not had a Pisco sour made right.

Transplanted native made them for me, then gave me the bottle to take home. I think she just didn't want the bottle herself, and knew I was too polite to refuse. Every now and then I still see it up there on the shelf, staring at me, daring me to try to drink it again.

Ahh..there you have it. Bring the bottle over and I will make you one and you will never look down on the drink again. Drinking Pisco straight is not that thrilling...it's a pretty hot and raw brandy and really needs a mixer. Another popular drink is the Chilcano--Pisco, ginger ale and lime and you can toss in a mint leaf if you like...somewhat similiar to a mojito. And there are some variations to the Pisco Sour.

Are we talking about a drink or what happens after you've had a few?

I unexpectedly found two bottles of Glenfarclas 21 this weekend. I immediately purchased both of them.

I would say that in the price range, this is the #1 Vodka.

Macallan 12 is always reliable. One of my favorites.

Knee-deep brewing, IPA ? 11.25% ABV.

Is there a better IPA out there?

I keep several bottles of vodka on hand. With XO in my freezer as the absolute best I've ever tasted in my Lifetime! It's more $$$ than most want to spend on vodka. But I recall a Russian bartender I met years ago telling me that in Russia the "go to vodka" is Kettle One. And I have to agree for the price point, it is the best.

I liked Kettle One the best when I was drinking vodka. But vodka and I can't seem to get along. Nearly always end up with a killer headache. Never happens with anything else.

I went cheap and bought some Gentleman Jack tonight. The local liquor store has a decent selection, but their prices are about $10 more than the superstores up in Champaign. I'll be there Friday, so no sense paying the local premium.

I agree with us 100% on how the small one off stores try and up charge way more. There are two small one owner stores within 5min of here but they are at least $10+ higher on premiums than SIGELS which is about 13min away.

Yeah, the local packy had Macallan 12 at nearly $80. Sam's Club in Champaign has it for under $60.

I hit the nearest superstore today (Friar Tuck's). I was disappointed with their rum offerings, but I grabbed a bottle of Dos Maderas 5+3 and a bottle of Aberlour 12. I'm going to open the Dos Maderas 5+3 tonight, so I'll report back on it.
