DSC shut off then back on while in sport+, puts me where?
It annoys me that I like to drive in sport+ mode because the car feels so much better turning in with dynamic traction, but the stupid yellow light with a car squiggling annoyingly stays on all the time.
So today I'm driving in sport+ like always and decide to turn DSC off also (hold button 5 seconds) to try out my new snow tires on some ice. When I turn it back on (long press of button): -yellow annoying car with squiggle light goes out -next to gear number no longer says "sport+", its blank there Whoa, am I back in comfort mode? Or did I go down to sport? Or am I still in sport+? Is this the magic solution to drive in sport+ without the yellow light on? Before I could find a safe place not covered by snow and ice to try and figure out what mode I was left in I wound up at work. Anyone? |

Although I drive an M2, and not an M240, I believe the DSC button works the same. If you press and hold DSC for more than ten seconds, it will turn off DSC completely, and with that, it turns off all the nannies that will save you from yourself. I'm not sure I would drive around like that unless there is nothing to hit.

I'm sharing the F22/F23 driving mode cheat sheet that has been posted here many times (I can't take credit for creating it). It tells you which mode you go into when you press the DSC button or enter cruise control. DSC OFF does go to comfort.

MassNerd thanks for posting the chart, I had not seen it. Any tips on how to use it? For instance, suppose I am in a big icy space and want to play with a little drifting action in my RWD stick?

Hold the DSC OFF button for 3 - 5 seconds. The DSC Off indicator will illuminate on the dash and iDrive should indicate that you are in DSC Off mode. This disables all the nanny's and will allow you to drift.

You can't reduce or turn off the nannies without the yellow stability light on. If you hold down the DSC Off button for a long period, the mode simply reverts to Comfort mode. There's no way around it.

True. You could always take the dash apart, remove the instrument cluster and remove the LED that illuminates the DSC Off light from the circuit board. Seems like more trouble than it's worth though.
Or you could just live with the light on your instrument cluster. (Seriously, who cares? I drive in DSC Off mode all the time; I don't even notice the light.) If you drive it enough with DSC Off, the LED will eventually burn out and that will solve your problem.

Isn't that the thing, though?
I mean, I'm at about 86.294 on the OCD scale, and my current always-on light is just fine with me when the alternative is shelling out $NNN to get it to go away. Mind you, the only reason the light is on is because I'd already had the car coded at some expense for EDC & eLSD delete. Not knowing my coding would be erased (yes, my bad ), I agreed to permit the dealer to perform a software update that was neither necessary, required, or had anything to do with my needs as the owner. I know, I know, live and learn. And you know what, at this late date I pretty much expect this as the owner of a modern car that I've had modified. It's just part of the game anymore. I continue to be thankful that I can afford these expenses and that I'm not paying what my P-car friends are paying for the same sorts of work and issues.

It is always a game with Porsche to see how expensive you can build a model with their online configurator. Usually you can at least double the MSRP of a given model, sometimes you can even get close to triple the model price with added options.
