warning! this is getting serious.

after being a victim of this heinous crime I thought I should share this with those of you not aware of what is a growing crime (not just in the UK) after being without a car for 3 months and the £6k cost of repair its time something was done! as a consumer there's not a lot we can do really, ive now got a disklok which i've now been told is a useful as a chocolate tea pot coz that just goes with the steering wheel £200 wasted I removed the steering adjuster lever coz this just helps the scumbags out by allowing the steering column to act like a slide hammer ! I'm sure there are other ways to protect my steering wheel but as yet this is the best I can think of, ultimately this is a problem BMW should be looking at! so Mr Oliver Zipse get your team to sort this out or I'll go and but an Audi
please watch

From the video, I'm assuming they just physically break or cut the column at the tilt and telescope mechanism and then just yank out the whole upper section of the collapsible tube, together with the stalks and anything attached to the wheel itself.

Sorry to see that! It looks like Thug #1 positions himself to assault you if you exit your home while Thug #2 does the dirty work.

I didn't look closely - does the video reveal the data on the number plates?

it takes under 10 seconds! break window release steering column adjuster then pull the steering wheel as hard as they can backwards n forwards till it gives in and slides out leaving just the column support. 10 seconds!! silver lining they didn't take the clocks which some people have also lost.

It looks like a force fit on the shaft with no pin/bolt... wonder if that design was for crumple zone reasons?

No, no cutting....no tools needed, just flip the lever and pull the wheel back n forth as hard as you can, this is my 235 after they took mine.

Are these idiots getting lots of money for BMW steering wheels? Or is this more about stealing them so the owner can't drive their car? I would be so pissed if this happened

over here in the UK there are many owners retrofitting these things ie the steering wheel lci rear led's extended dash etc so these people acquire them then sell em on eBay Facebook and the like just look on eBay for an M wheel with all the stuff on it! £500-£800 its a lucrative business.
