No cutting, direct bolt on. Make sure you have an 18mm deep socket to remove the rear rebar nuts (4), I didn't have one and had to go to the local auto part store... |

Changed the engine air filter with another Mann. After 2 years it was dirty enough to warrant a change. Going to do the cabin one sometime soon when I feel like crawling under there.
After much procrastination, I'm finally prepping tools for the long weekend job of springs, camber plates, bump stops, misc nuts and bolts and wheel stud kit. Edit: Job's done! The Eibachs feel great vs stock but don't lower much. Minor rattle from the millway plates at slow uneven pavement. Maybe the end links didn't get the correct torque, I snapped 2 of my T30 bits somehow. Also popped the rivet out of the headlight leveler rod, new one on order. Checked out how the car was faring after a couple of weeks under my new, 7-layer breathable car cover. Everything looking good so far.
The new electric vehicle (EV) for local journeys has displaced it out of the garage, but I still want to keep the BMW for a while yet. So I'm hoping the cover will help. It's a seven-layer, breathable fabric and this one is specifically for 2 series convertibles. I have to say, my experience with my first EV is very positive, especially for relatively local journeys. I have a home charger, so that makes it a lot easier to run than having to rely on public chargers. The car is a Peugeot e-208 GT. Can't get over the perfectly seamless power ramp-up. It’s 0-60 is 8 secs but it seems much faster and on an overnight low power rate, it only costs about $7 to fully charge-up for a practical range of ~180 miles.

Bad start to the weekend, neighbor's daughter backed into the front of my car and cracked up the front bumper. She told me she put the minivan in reverse and didn't pay attention.. Will see how their insurance resolves it.

Thanks, luckily they have good insurance and I have a fantastic auto body shop to go to. Damage pretty much looks like limited to the bumper skin, maybe the bumper support -lights etc are all ok, no leaking fluids either.

Had to take out the rear seats today, boot wasn’t unlocking. Had to connect some extension bars to slide through the gap to press the seat folding release leaver. Coming from an e92 had no idea to 2er boot was inaccessible if the boot got stuck. Think the cable needs replacing.
Car felt a tad quicker without the rear seats. |

Had the car out a bit over the last week and taking advantage of the amazing weather here in MN. Car is gripping well-- thanks to AmuroRay for the recommendation to lower the tire pressures. Was a game-changer and so simple. I'm set at MHD stage 2 91 OCT map and getting into some timing corrections though I have been filling up with Shell 93 V power. Will try to augment a couple gallons of ethanol to see if that cleans things up.
Next up is trying to convince my wife to do a track day with me. She is scared she is going to wreck the car. It's a pretty cool opportunity. $175 bucks for a full day experience, and includes a few sessions with an instructor. I could add my wife as a 2nd driver for another $100. There is a session the weekend of our wedding anniversary so feels like the stars are aligned-- perfect date!

Funny. I know as she got into it the fear would go away and she would love it. Prior to my first track experience I was pretty nervous. That all went away after a few minutes.

Hey All,
Interesting numbers to look at here, with some hypothetical opinions sprinkled in. Hopped into configuration for the BM3 S2+ tune and adjusted a few goodies: -Reduced burble length to refine the decel. And not sound ricey. (What a change, sounds more exotic) -Added in the GTS roar (people have to know its starting…) Then the topic of discussion… MAX COOLING ENABLED. As a background the Max cooling mode keeps fans on as well as other adaptations I am unaware of at this point. That said, under normal driving conditions Engine Oil temp would sit pretty stead at 223*F and engine temp very similar. With max cooling mode engaged both temps sat around 172*F. Thats around a 20% decrease in both engine an oil temps. Which for summer driving, keeps things inside the engine happy! Or not? After debating this, and theorizing; it can also cause prolonged and unnecessary strain on the cooling systems. Post your thoughts, or any data points for discussion! |
