trying to calculate wire for my dashcam install
I'm running my thinkware via the official thinkware hardware wiring kit, this is standard size.
The wire is around 10ft and it wont make it to the trunk. SO I have to splice in some cable for the rest 4 or 5 ft. Now, depending on where it ends and it's usually at the seat, I "MAY" be able to secure the ground there or need to run it to the boot. So not sure if I'm getting 2 core or 3 core. I'm going to assume 3 core. Now, the 2 wires, permanently live and switched live, if I remember from the previous setup, one went to a 5amp the other a 15amp fuse. So I'm looking at a 22 AWG cable, which google says at 12v will carry 7 amps The dash cam wont pull more than 0.5amp's according to it's specs. So one wire on the 5 amp is fine, as fuse blows at around 5-7amps ? maybe, but the other one, is a 15amp. that's what worries me. IF something happens that fuse wont blow , I guess I can find another 5amp fuse, not sure why they picked that one last time is 22 gauge ok ? for both fuses Should I try and find 2x 5 amp fuses should I get a thicker gauge wire does it matter if I get 2 or 3 wires and just earth it on the chassis |
