I am due up for new front and rear brakes and have decided to go with the EBC Redstuff but I'm wondering if I should go with the OEM BMW Rotors for my M240ix or aftermarket.

Locally from BMW the front and rear rotors run for $300/front and $270/rear each. (CAN$)

Are the stock rotors on the 2018 240ix made by Zimmermann? I found the same rotors for slightly cheaper.

The original rotors on our car are 2-piece riveted (permanent attached) with an aluminum 'hat' section. When looking at the Zimmerman rotors they make an OEM equivalent 2-piece, and a solid 1 piece. Get the 2-piece version. These rotors are already quite heavy, and the one piece are several pounds more.

For example, I recently replaced the rear rotors on my M235i.

I know their are benefits of going with a two piece rotor but will it be a noticeable change if I jump to a one piece rotor kit setup?

Personally, I don't think you can beat the OEM riveted 2-piece for performance and value. Lighter is always better, and although I don't know for sure, I would strongly suspect the kit 1 piece are heavier. And except for extreme track use, slotted/dimpled/drilled rotors do not provide any better braking performance, and tend to be noisier.

You can use the pads with any type of rotor. They aren't matched in any way.

Sounds good I may stick to the OEM but BMW wants way too much for them so if I can find them elsewhere and save a bit that would be the move.

sorry what I meant was are these zimmerman essentially what come with the car stock? Does BMW just rebrand these as their own?

Generally, if it says OE or OEM, it's equivalent to the manufacturer part. Maybe not the exact same part it was built with, but it should be equivalent.

For my rear discs, I did the Zimmerman, and they certainly look identical to what was on the car. But they aren't genuine as they actually have a nice anti-rust coating on them, which the original BMW discs don't.

For my front discs, since I track and I wanted the original matching, I paid for the Genuine BMW. And they were an exact match to what I pulled off the car. But I'm not sure they were worth the extra money, and they didn't have that nice anti-rust coating.

Good info to know. I am going to pickup those Zimmerman OE rotors and match them with the EBC Redstuff brakes. I can’t seem
to find the OE Zimmerman rotors at a Canadian online retailer so may have to order them and pick them up myself across the border.

The zinc coating is pretty weak as a selling feature. Mine didn't even last 2 non-winter months before turning brown at the cooling fins. The hats are still good though.
