Do I need hockey pucks ?

I was just wondering, why can I not just cut a piece of wood to size and glue or screw it into the jack point as a permanent fill, or maybe remove the point and fill it with resin ?

Then I can just use the usual round flat jack pad ?

Same when I take it to a garage ?

Would BMW invalidate any warranty ?

You don't need to use anything... it's a maybe a $20 part if it does get chewed up. If you do have flat jack stands then they shouldn't be affected.

I've been using axle stands (the stupid curved stands) that don't fit anything and they're in half decent shape still after 2-3 years.

I do use a hockey puck on my jack and usually the puck does get a bit damaged after a few lifts.. but that's a 99c item.

I love using the pucks and find them a huge convenience. So much easier to jack up my 2 than my non BMW cars.

But if you dont, use any jack point you choose that is safe. So come up with any jack scheme you want thats better for you.

There was a recent post by a guy who does a lot of track work and was jacking up him car many times a week and actually had steel bars welded to his frame to use as an easy jack point. First my jaw hit the floor, but then I realized if he's jacking up and down that many times for his situation it was worth it.

Why go to all this trouble? The formed lift pads are $15 for a set of four on Amazon.

This part has nothing to do with warranty. If it breaks, it's on your dime. I routinely lift my car numerous times a year. My M235 is closing in on 8 years. The orginal jack pads aren't cracked, chipped, etc.

I jacked up my '11 335 without pucks for like 9 years. They looked pretty beat when I sold it, but casual observers never see them, they still worked, and are cheap to replace in any case.

I got some Amazon pucks for the 240. They are also cheap, and provide a solution to the most first world of problems.

This is the post: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1668225.

My principal purpose was to enable the car to easily be put up on four jack stands in just a couple of minutes time. While that was most useful when I was going to the track (I don't go anymore), I still take advantage of it three or four times each year at home.

I use ESCO jack stands with large, round rubber pads and no longer use any of the pucks I've acquired over the years.
