I honestly can't figure it out!!!
7 seater is on it's way... the 225i Gran Tourer...

and the Active Tourer's target demographic is 500,000 or so people that have bought a Mercedes B Class.

For those who are not really interested about this model there are some new things around: the engines!
Finally BMW upgraded the 18d engine up to 150 hp (like VW Group did).
A new 25i engine. We will see an MPPK too?
A bad surprise is the naming 218i with the same hp as the current 116i! There is something wrong here! What will be available between?

Future UKL-based 2er Coupe will most probably offered in AWD-only variant in some markets like eg. US. At least the M Performance variant (M235i xDrive).
Yeah, I am not a fan of the Z cars. Besides the Z4MC, they have always looked a little limp wristed...

If that is the only option with BMW, I might have to look elsewhere...

Couldn't agree more. This is a grim reminder that BMW is no longer what it used to be.

Not the same class of car at all. the Golf R is a sports hatchback. this is as the name suggest a ''touring'' car. It is meant as being more practical and although I haven't checked the specs, more spacious than a golf.

My guess is that this time Z3 will be designed to look like a true coupe - not a roadster with an added roof to look like a coupe (or even some sort of a Shooting Brake in the original Z3 Coupe case).

Some even say - since the new sports car will be something special it may even get the Z1 moniker.

And I don't think it will feature the same silhouette as the Z4 (long bonnet, short rear) since its layout will be different (engine in the rear!).

I find very confusing all the ''bashing'' of this car. obviously if you drive a 235 or an M3 this car is not meant for you... the same thing happened with Porsche when they brought out the cayenne. Everyone went apeshit about ''brand dilution'' and ''betrayal of values''. What people don't understand is that because Porsche made the cayenne they can now invest more money into making better, faster, more reliable 911's. The same is true here... while many would argue BMW doesn't need more money, having more will enable them to make more interesting halo cars. So instead of having just the M3 and M5, we're able to get an M1, M3, M5, M6 and maybe who knows one day an M7. I think this ''touring'' car will be very successful, and honestly I like it more than all the crap ugly GT 3ers and GT 5ers they're bringing out, those in my opinion, are useless cars. Honestly I think adding this car to their lineup makes more sense than most of the variants they brought out recently. I would remove the GT's all together in the lineup before I dismiss this car. The mercedes B has been very popular in canada, and i expect this one to do even better. Europe will buy it like crazy.

Correct. This is essentially a Golf Plus competitor (not a Golf competitor) which, by the way, I don't believe you can option with a 2.0T engine.

For those looking for a Golf R answer, there is the M135i (where available) which, though more expensive, will likely outperform it handily.

Really don't see the point of this vehicle and the 2 Series badging. Isn't this basically an X1 but FWD?

I only buy bmw because of RWD ///M. A small M car with 6 cil engine ----> 1M Coupe.

For SUV or familie cars there more brands who bring nice cars. I am not gonna pay bmw money for a FWD ---> Never

And pay money for a 3 cil car. Haha no way. Then i rather buy a motorbike

If I ever have to drive a minivanish style vehicle for longer trips now I have a obvious choice. I think it's a good move and it will sell. I think the front end could have been better n meaner but still lot better looking than others in its class.

The styling/interior/refinement of the new 2015 Golf R is excellent, you can see some Audi influence. 290hp, dual clutch transmission, and awd far out way any of that nonsense. Oh and it is said to get 33 mpg.

A mini-van fwd BMW, oh that just screams prestige. LOL

Brand Loyalty - in other words "badge whoring"
Brand loyalty/preference is not "badge whoring."

As someone who worked in a Mercedes-Benz dealership (Benzel Bush), I have seen a significant percentage of sales going to members of families that just prefer the brand and/or dealer. They have often owned the brand for most/all of their lives and at this point they prefer the familiarity of the vehicle systems and probably have built up a relationship with their dealer. When the time comes where a model like the AT makes sense, it's a positive to have an offering from BMW instead of losing them to another brand.

Its a shame people are so self-centered that they can't see past their own preferences.

I notice that most dislike comments are coming from our North American friends...
although I'm not a fan of this car myself, but I think it will be more receptive specially in the European market...lifestyle is different and the need for a smaller but roomy styled car is very much appreciated...
I could see myself buying this car when I lived in Europe back in those days...
