Bought a used 228i Xdrive convertible for the wife Thursday. A few projects to do like the wheels (some curbed after markets I have to replace). Any suggestions? Do I have to go wider on the rears?
Coming from a MINI, she is a happy girl. |

You can set up the screen on tirerack.com so she can see the alternatives on an image of her car. There is a tool to show the car in the proper color. No need at all for staggered setup. I’d pick one of the pressure-cast, not gravity-cast, choices for quality. Don’t know her driving style but might want some fresh tires for her safety...and comfort. They’ll ship a mounted, balanced package of her choice to a local affiliated installer in your area. A quick pit stop and she’s all set. Given your location, a good time to plan ahead for winter driving as well! Those wheels could be more basic with some dedicated studless tires if that is her only year around car.

Thanks for the info. I use Discount Tire and their app is similar. Good recommendation of the cast wheels. It has 4 Conti Extreme Contacts (225/40/18) that are almost new so I will stay with them. We have lived in the Rockies for the past 30 years (6,500 ft) so we are pretty use to the winter driving, the Xdrive should be interesting. May also check out the For Sale Parts section on this forum. Looked like so good deals on there.

Car was idling really rough from cold starts, even garaged in my mild CA weather...
Swapped plugs, same thing. Reseated the intake, same thing. Cleaned MAF sensor and it seemed to clear up for a week. Then back to almost bogging down on cold start, running rough until it got warm. Car started to throw random CEL for Bank 1 running too rich. Took my Injen shortram intake out and swapped my stock airbox back in. CEL gone and there's no more rough idle or lag with my BM3 stage 2. So weird. Ran that intake for 3 years from Stage 1 JB4 until I Stage 2'd with Bootmod3 earlier this year... Took a whole month before I started seeing any problems with it while S2. |

I installed the Burger Motorsports clutch stop and took it for a spin. Not sure why I waited so long to spend this 10 bucks! Makes a nice change that I didn't know I needed. I also re-sharpied the formerly white stitching on my M Performance steering wheel and shift boot

Not today, but a last week - took off the Dinan Springs / Bumpstops and Vorshlag Camber Plates and put in a set Ohlins Road and Track coilovers + Vorshlag Camber Plates I picked up here from forums.
Before on Dinan Springs: You can see how the tops of the tires are tucked underneath the fender. After on Ohlins: I now have about 1 finger gap in the rear and 1.5 / 2 finger gap up front. Perfectly functional and aggressive at the same time. I'm also able to run less camber and not have to worry about large dips and rubbing. Overall I'm extremely pleased so far and looking forward to modifying more of the suspension / chassis / bushings for some more direct feedback. |

OK I am Locked down here
OK I am Locked down here. I can take the comments. Hey I think they are cool and the car needed some sort of prize for being stuck in garage. Gas is so cheap and still have full tank since march 12th. I also bought from high priced BMW dealer...not cheap knock off E-Bay options. Remember I am in Lock down !!!!

Ran over a very expensive nail. I have just sold the old wheel/tire set, haven't received the spare yet, and no once had MP4S in stock. Perfect timing as always . Had to wait for 4 days, but finally got em - replaced both rears. Fronts are still MPSS with a decent tread left. Not sure when to replace those.
