I am hoping for a lower roof line to go with the longer front, and a lower seating position that is more sporty than compact car.

It still shares the platform with the 1er hatch, so that's not going to change. It does make for a slightly odd looking car though I agree.

They probably realized that the "GEN" design is a failure. I just can't believe how much more beautiful the new BMWs can be, but they're not.

Still think all the line expansions going on will lead to market saturation in the end. Great for consumers, but bad for profits.

I like the size a whole lot more than the bloated 4er, and I definitely think the design is a lot less off-putting than the 1 series. (I know a lot of people around here like that car, but I cant count on one hand the amount of times i've heard "The 135 would be the perfect car.. if it wasn't the ugliest/goofiest/effeminate looking car on the road"
I just wish they gave it the N54

the 2er is growing on me a bit....but it needs a shot of character. I hope the 235 styling gives it a bit of boost in the attitude department! |

Im agreeing that the 1 series has merit from a driving perspective. Granted, it wasn't out when I got my E92, but I think a lot of E92 owners/E90 owners would have picked the E82 had it not been for its radical styling. Hence why a lot of us are keeping close eyes on the 2. I didn't want/need a car as big as the E9x, and I'll be the first to acknowledge its shortcomings as a "fun car". If the 2 can nail the driving dynamics in a way resembling to the E46/E82 without trying to do so much with its design, I think it will be a much more popular car than the E82 was. This is a good thing, because the new 3, 5, and 6s are pretty big letdowns for BMW faithful, and the 4 series has now gone more A5/Eclass coupe than driving machine. i understand BMW has to put business first, and that means appealing to badge snobs and people who want a comfortable, well rounded car... but it'd be pretty cool if I could have a comfortable 3200 pound daily driver that gave up some luxuries for the sake of fun. And I mean no disrespect with my opinions of the E82's styling. If you like it, then that's all that matters. Thumbs up

Older BMW's are not funky. The E46 M3 is one best looking BMW's ever. The 135i is just goofy junk. |

The quirky nature of the E82 styling gave the car character, in my opinion...and it looks great to me from certain angles. the only thing I was never that fond of were the headlights...those could have been done much better. I am excited for the 2 series...but the shots I have seen, it almost looks like a shrunken down love child of the 3 and 4. Which I am not sure I love at this point...I have my production number reserved, so I am getting one, but I hope there is still some defining characteristics, similar to the E82...

After driving the 3 series..all of them to the current 2013 models all i can say is that the 1 series feels like am amazing bargain compared to any 3 series including the M3 from any year. It just has attitude and a hyper attitude that only the E46 had when pressing it to 8000 rpms....my old 1 series had that at 2000 rpms and at the moment a 2008-2010 N4 used is one of the BEST buy's on the market right now...and some of us feel it's a good looking "funky" car with soul.... |

The 1 coupe doesn't look that bad. It only has these weird smiling rocker panels. I do like that it is very reminiscent of the 2002 with its narrow look.
It seems that the new 2 will depart from that tradition and look more usual, like a miniature f30, or more like a modernized e46. The 1 hatch headlights are quite ugly, and the rest is rather uninspiring. |
