Really...it has BT but will not connect to the devices. Going to try out the vivid first with torque lite and go from there

Not reliable at all.

Use this as a means to log and watch temps. The 0-60, 1/4 mi, HP and TQ numbers are not reliable by any means.

B58 Component Protection and Emergency Ranges for Oil Temp and Coolant Temp

Has anyone found the component protection and emergency temp ranges for engine oil temp and coolant temp for the B58 (F22)? Trying to set-up gauges with caution and warning limits on an obd2 app. No joy on a forum search.

Anyone notice the coolant and oil temps displayed on Torque read high? I've parked my car (M240i) overnight (6pm) through 7 am in 45 degree weather - when I leave for work @ 7AM the coolant says 70F on startup - I would think 12 hours of inactivity would have the coolat @ ambient temperature. Oil temps are similarly high at startup after prolonged inactivity.

Thanks to this thread I can now view oil temp! Just got the isaddle bluetooth today and it paired up quick and easy with my Galaxy s7 note. I have a 10/16 build date f87 for what it's worth.

My car read unexpectedly high too. Car left overnight in an insulated garage. I would imagine the temp in there to be low 70s. When I started the car after a 10 hours of inactivity. It read that oil and coolant Temps were in low 90s. I'm surprised it would hold warmth that long, unless sensors at cold start up aren't all that accurate.

Revisiting the Missing Oil Temp Sensor

I'd like to revisit the missing Oil Temp sensor issue.

I'm late to the OBD2 game here, but just picked up the BAFX Products OBD2 adapter, and in both Torque Lite and Torque Pro, I have no Oil Temp, which is the item I was most interested in.

My M235i has a 4/14 build date, one of the first ones, and has the following equipment:

Driver Assistance Package
Technology Package (Nav)
Heated Seats
H/K Premium Sound

I wonder if any of the various package configurations play a role here? My next step is to ask one of my local service advisors, who is an enthusiast/M oriented guy if he has any info.

Any other info/thoughts?

So you don't get a reading for the engine oil temp measurement?

No - If I select the Oil Temp sensor listing in Torque, when displayed it says "No Data". Which really makes no sense, considering this data IS available via the Secret Menu. I've seen elsewhere ideas that BMW has coded certain sensors to be unavailable - I would just like to understand the situation here, why some can get the Oil Temp and others can't.

Mine is called "Engine oil temp" next to the "Engine coolant temp". I'll check for the setting you're using later on tonight.

Yes, if I Add a Display, the selection is called "Engine Oil Temp" in the scrolling selection list. The nickname on the dial when added to the screen is Oil Temp, and the dial says "no data" in yellow.

Sorry for any confusion.

Sorry, meant to get back to this. Yup, same as mine then. wth. Works on my MY16. Maybe there's an update that the dealer can do. I'd imagine that all of these dongles are the same, so shouldn't be that. :/

I ordered the wifi dongle from Amazon and it should be here sometime this month. I can't wait to actually be able to see what's going on with the engine. Especially because I hit the magic mileage. Less than 1000 miles left of my warranty.

Got the dongle in and the Dash Command app. Both work flawlessly. I am still playing with the app to see what options I can come up with.

I've never seen an apple device that could connect to more than one wifi connection at the same time.

I dont have apple car play but I believe it connects to the car via bluetooth

If thats the case than most modern iphones should have no problem connecting to the obdii wireless and bluetooth at the same time

Re CarPlay only the initial handshake is done via Bluetooth, the connection after that is wifi. I have CarPlay and when I want to use the Carly app via obdii I have to turn off CarPlay.

For those of you who are using a spare phone and/or tablet, what do you do with it when you leave the car? Do you just leave the phone/tablet in your car all the time?

Pretty much. I have to exit torque to make sure that it doesn't drain the battery. There's an auto shutoff feature in torque, but I didn't like the way it worked.
