"At the same time the Active Sound Design control unit ensures an even spread of sound across all five seats of the new BMW M5" Which sounds to me like the sound reproduction is acoustically tuned to be directed at the driver and passenger, I wonder if it could be a binaural recording type of deal http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binaural_recording . the reason I mention this is because I noticed when I changed the engine code to s55 and model code to F80, it seemed like I could more distinctly tell the ASD was coming from the speakers, whearas with the ASD at stock setting I can never tell that the sound is coming from the speakers, by this I mean directionally . So if the sound reproduction is acoustically tuned to be directed at all passengers, then that would explain why when switching model number in ASD the sound seems more displaced, rather than natural, because the ASD is shaping the audio for a car of different dimensions and different seating position etc. Makes me want to try setting the model back to F22 and see if I can get it to work, then it would sound more natural hopefully. I know some people have tried changing the engine code but didn't change the model and their audio system stopped working, so maybe it can't be done, worth a shot though. Well that's my crazy hypothesis, and alot of speculation. It might explain why ASD gets its own ecu though, must take some processing power to do all that live. Makes me feel better about ASD, that BMW didn't just stick a recording of the engine noise in the HU and say "voilą, Active Sound" but that there's actually sophistication in it. I wouldn't be surprised if the method of getting the sound files involves putting a production ready car into a sound isolation room and stripping all the sound deadening out and racing the engine while a special microphone setup is in the car. That way ASD isn't just a recording of fake engine noise, but is what you would be hearing without all the sound deadening in the car. Or maybe in just crazy Last edited by G4Z808; 01-21-2015 at 06:40 AM.. |

Is it possible to increase the stock ASD volume???
I really like the way my M235 sounds. I just don't want to wake up my neighbors with a loud exhaust.

Um, isn't that a stanced M5 in your sig?
I don't see an appreciable difference between tweaking the ride height of a car (in a manner that sacrifices performance in exchange for making the car appear "fierce") and tweaking the soundtrack a car makes (which has no actual effect on performance but makes it sound "fierce"). And while everyone is always on and on about how far BMW has gone astray since the "pure" and "unadulterated" E46 M3, let me remind you of the non-funtional fender vents on that car, which BMW added only to add some "flair" to the appearance. "Posing" is and always will be a part of car manufacturing. |

Bahahaha!
You're grasping at straws here, but go ahead. You've no clue how that M5 is setup, but I wouldn't expect someone who thinks that made-up engine sounds and modified suspensions are the same, to understand the intricacies of doing a suspension setup correctly. |

I just found out that my car has only two functioning headlamps, not four. The horror!

so if you upgrade the subwoofers in the M4
does the 6 cyl engine then sound like a 8 cyl engine? maybe if I get a pair of 12" subs i'd have the sound of a V12!

Coded for HK (Branded HiFi) using F082 Engine Code. Will test it out on Saturday when I get a chance to drive it. If I don't notice any change will change to F080 Engine Code.

I'm extremely disappointed that there is no selection for the Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engine.

So I actually played with this a little bit and the S55 option does sound a bit ridiculous haha. And it seems that simply picking invalid model/group combinations either disables or extremely lowers the ASD.

LOL.....as I said in my earlier post save yourself time and hassle guys. Just make Vrrrrrrrrrooooooooooom VrrrroooMMMMMM noises with your mouth to imitate what ever engine you want. It requires no programming your girl friend will be like is that noise coming from your mouth or the engine. Nahhhhh ahhhmmmmm engine off course lol!!!!
or better yet record F22 raptor sound on your ipod and let it rip. I am sure no one has F22 raptor sound in their car. Hook it up with some external speakers on all four corners and people will be like hell that is a F22 flying on the roads. All people will be just waiting to hear that sound in your car and your ears will magically make u feel you are flying an F22 raptor jet
