my insurance was always stupid cause when i had an accident few years ago it was 22k to replace and the car was worth around that and they paid to repair !!
So this one i think for new engine + installing will be like 25k to 30k .... they will repair it for sure it wont be totalled !! FML now i can never sell it !! |

But it will definitely take a major $$$ hit due to the recorded repair. My 2003 Z4 which had $17K worth of repairs (due to being rear-ended) took an approx 30% value hit when I resold it - even though all the repairs were done by BMW with OEM parts.

Why would a car not sell with a brand new engine replaced at dealer? I don't get it.....if anything, that could be viewed as a positive thing.
Cars that don't sell are the ones that have been near totaled and fixed |

Water is just bad - period. Engine aside think of all the electrical stuff that could be compromised. Modern cars are basically mobile computers at this point.

In all seriousness I'd happily rock this logo on the trunk. Obscure enough not to offend anyone. WW2 German submarine coat of arms.

Since the dealer is doing the work and they will be doing the resale, chances are you may get much more as a trade-in w/ them than if you decide to keep it and sell or trade later. Your car will have its highest value at the time it is repaired and ready for return to you. The longer you wait the more you lose. Chances are the dealership has a car in stock that they would be happy to sell and take yours in trade. May not be the best of options, but one worth exploring. |

How many miles and how old was it that they gave you MSRP? What kind of coverage did you have that gave MSRP?

Maybe. We don't know what we don't know. Just need to wait. Hopefully the lesson here is don't ford rivers. If you can't clearly see the asphalt, go another way.

In any case, a lot of insurance companies around here will total any water damaged/hydrolocked cars no matter what. This is because they don't want any future liability exposure due to issues that could be related to the water damage that could surface at a later point in time. Not sure if it's the same in QC.
