Nav?
Hello all, (my first post)
If I do this mod and upgrade to the 8.8 screen I'd do it mostly for the NAV feature. My car obviously did not come with NAV. Is it possible to somehow add Navigation once I do the swap? What else would I need to do? Thanks! |

Might anyone confirm if the 8.8" out of a '16 328i will work in this conversion? Have a local seller offering one, but want to confirm will work before purchase of course..
Have requested the part number, but no response of yet. Part numbers seem to be different than the 2 listed by OP. |

The difference in part number I believe is between LCI and Pre LCI , the screen still works but the LCI has a blue hue If I remember right which people seem to think looks better, you're good to go if you want to buy It but if you get the part number If you need help confirming PM me ! |

Definitely one of the better mods
I picked up a beautiful 2016 228i a while back. Most important was the manual transmission and M-sport package. Track handling, heated seats, upgraded headlights, 405M wheels and factory CF spoiler were a bonus.
I do not care for for Nav since google maps on my phone does a great job, but the 6.5" non-nav screen sure made my 228i look a bit dated. As a matter of fact, my 14 year old son actually thought that my new to me 228i was much older. He admitted that it was the screen that made it look much older. Luckily I found this post and had already purchased an 8.8" L7 screen from a 2015 228 on Ebay. Thanks to this post I was able to install the 8.8" screen without any issues. The guidance found on this forum for determining Entry Nav and coding were spot on. Thank you Bimmerpost. |

Is there a trick to getting the connector connected? It appears as though I have it pushed in all the way, but the new screen is still saying "No Signal." The coding is correct, as far as I can tell. New screen PN is 9787547 02.
Thanks in advance for any help. DBinOC |

Upgrade from CIC to NBT
I own a BMW 220i (2014) and I had enough with the old CIC system. Unfortunately I do not have the enhanced bluetooth. Can I upgrade to NBT or any other newer multimedia system? if so, how? Thanks.

I updated the other thread discussing this as well but wanted to make sure everyone was aware. I finally found a F22 screen with the right backing and a really good price and jumped on it. Unfortunately it doesnt fit in the 2018 LCI models.. now the F3x screens fit. Luckily the salvage yard that posted it for sale on eBay also has a F3x screen so I'm hoping I can return it and exchange for the other one.

As far as upgrading from what I have read a full retrofit is your only option. Codemybimmer.ca and bimmertech.com offer retrofit kits complete with the HU, screen, and controller, but it's around 2,000 for the upgrade to ID5/6 with CarPlay

Out of interest, has anyone tried this with one of the latest EVO units (ID6) with the smaller 6.5" screen?
I've got a new 225xe (F45) arriving soon and would love to get the bigger screen installed - is it still the case that you have to get the non touch screen 8.8" screen to upgrade or would the larger touch screen version work now since the 6.5" screens are also touch screen (I believe)? |

Update: installed a F3x 626 part number alpine non touch screen today. The fitment was perfect with no gap on my 2018 230i. I did have to code it differently then others have instructed. I used BimmerCode and coded the following-
Head Unit (HU_NBT) (Expert mode) - 3005 DISPLY_PIP_CONFIG * CID_DISPLAY_SIZE - 2. 8.8 * CID_DISPLAY_RES - 2. 1280x480 Note: When I initially installed the screen it said no signal. After coding as other said in previous posts (EX_BOX - Brites Display) the screen went blank and my audio stopped working. I panicked a little, but realized that the display resolution option wasn't there. I dug around a bit and found the options above with display also in the title preceded by CID which seemed relevant. Crossed my fingers and tried it after coding the brites display option back to what it was before. It booted up beautiful once the coding competed. Now I'm curious if the touch screen might actually work on the 2018s +. There is an option under the same area to code touch screen active |

The screen in the 225xe AT is definitely touch screen for a september 2018 model, my research so far has found that the nav unit in them is the business nav, whether you have the 6.5" screen or the 8.8" (nav plus, not pro!) so I'm hoping that if I can get hold of the 8.8" touch screen then it should just plug and play - was just hoping someone else had already been the guinea pig for this!!
I need to update my copy of ista-p before I plug in to check the coding it already has as my version is a couple of years old. |

Thanks for this thread, it's great.
I am looking at a used M235i with no options aside from the HK audio and appearance upgrades. I don't think I can live without a backup camera, which I know Bimmertech sells as a full kit. Do you know if that can be combined with doing this screen upgrade? Perhaps I should look for another thread for adding a camera regardless of screen? Thanks! |
