Supra is a $40-45k car in my mind. I can purchase a much more capable C7 in the low $40k range today. And the C7 has just as much aftermarket support, if not more. The 6.2L LT1 engine can easily handle a supercharger and get you over 600HP too if that's your thing.

You can even find a slightly used 718 Cayman/Boxster in the low $40k range and actually be able to own a Porsche. I'm just not finding a compelling reason why you would spend $50k or more for a Supra. I'd rather spend that kind of money to get the Z4 instead and at least have a drop top.

That was sarcasm as Toyota assured Toyota reliability for the BMW Supra.

They just had to tweak things a bit.

Not surprising, b58 was in m340i which can come with a manual. Other modules such as ESP are probably pulled from the f chassis as well. Even some g20s have a manual, so if supra uses g chassis control modules, they all most likely can be coded to manual trans

There is a black one at work. I spent a good bit of time looking at it from the outside. Was surprised no one came out and asked me what the hell I was doing hehe. Besides it being a new car, I just wasn’t gushing over it. It has solid engineering but I think the buyer is someone who always wanted a Supra and bought into the mystique of it.

Or someone who doesn't want the convertible version of it and/or the grill...ahem...Z4. I was driving down a highway and noticed a car changing into the lane I was in. Looking at my rear view mirror, the first thing that grabbed my attention was the monstrous or monstrosity of the grills on this car. I then realized it was a Z4.

Not sure about the mentality either. The Civic Type R is suffering from the same syndrome. The mark up is almost the same as a M3/M4. Why not just walk into a BMW and get a M3/M4, or M2 and I might venture to say those are even more special to drive than the Supra or Type R. Or order a C8 at MSRP. This is no longer 1980's or 1990's.

I like the Supra. I don't buy BMW'S, I lease them. Right now I am far from convinced that this will have anything close to Toyota reliability. Hopefully it will lease like a BMW down the road....

How would it have Toyota reliability? It's all BMW, made by BMW, the only Toyota parts are the badges.

Toyota engineers took the engine apart and to summarize, reported that it will be reliable...the jury is still out....😎

They may have given it their blessing but they definitely didnt change anything like the rumors suggest.. Its just a B58 same as any other BMW.. With that said though my last few BMWs have gone 100K+ miles with little to no issues.

So it may not be as reliable as a Toyota ( not much is hahaha ) but it will prob still be a great car provided you keep up on your maintenance. Both my E90 & F30 have been pretty damn good cars.

I have leased 3 BMW'S. Currently have a X3 35i...no problems. The 535 sedan we had prior to that broke down and had to be towed with 20k miles...HPFP failure, among other issues...4k cost... thankfully covered under warranty....

Ouch on the 4k repairs, I think any reliability concerns are down the road for people not during a lease period... Id hope you have no issues lol its practically a brand new car under 50k miles...

Issues and concerns for people are in the 50-150k mile range.

That was the first thing he said in the comment. I can see if someone fall in love with E46 will find anything subsequent "too big/heavy" etc (not sure if that's what he complained but E90 was kind the beginning of a departure I suppose)
