Sigh,
E46 M3 & E92 M3 owner...Now owner of M235i. I don't give a F*CK if this is a true M car or not. and no, its not. After owning 2 m3's and 8 other BMW's the last 15 years this is my fave. Second only to the E46 M3...And yes, I like it more than the E92 with an S65 under the hood...

I was originally set on an E46 M3 until I really looked at the M235i. For anyone questioning the M235i's "M Authenticity", go to your local dealer and drive an M4. You'll have your answer when you get back into the M235i. I don't see anyone really saying that the M235i is a true M car anyways.. I've said it before in this thread, and I'll say it again: The M235i is the E46 M3 of 2014/2015. |

You really had to wring-out the S65 to get any. But I'll also be the first to admit that it was pretty damn intoxicating doing it E46 M3 was close to perfection in weight, responsiveness, visceral experience etc...

I have an M235i and I was at a restaurant where some guy who just bought an M3 came over and was looking at it and had a weird attitude. He didn't say much other than he'd never heard of it so I wasn't sure if he was just curious or being a dick. I did some reading and that's why I posted. |

Don't know if this has been posted before but there was the M535i in 1980, predecessor to the M5 and sort of what the M Performance line is.

I've had an e46 M3, e93 M3 and just sold my e92 M3 which were all kept as weekend cars. Placed an order for an M235i last week to be used as all in one daily/ sports car.
Couldn't afford an M4 and after driving the m235i it felt like a baby m4 (not as raw or refined with spec/ finishings) but nearly half the price! Which is what pushed me towards ordering one. The S65 V8 with the exhaust mod is by far the best sounding car I've owned and the only reserve i have with the m235i is the exhaust noise. Hopefully the MPE sorts that out though. After driving the e92 m3 and m235i back to back its clear the 235i isn't an M car, it doesn't have that xfactor you feel when driving it. However its size, handling and power delivery makes it a super fun car to drive and more usable day to day power wise. Plus the technology and interior cabin is miles ahead now on the latest bmws compared to even th previous gen. |

Midwest.. Awesome to hear how much you love the car while owning two of the best beasts bmw made in my opinion. Cant wait till mine gets here. As far as this debate, once i saw a few weeks ago that bmw made the m535i in the 80s, I never even questioned it again. Already knew it wasn't an M2 from before I ordered it, and the m535i being produced showed me that this may be something different bmw may do from time to time. All good w me. Safe driving all..

I've only had a chance to test drive the M235i once (and it was an 8AT, which isn't my first choice) and was completely surprised by it. And this was right after test driving an M4 with a 6MT. It had all the elements I enjoy from BMW's of the past.
Having said that, there's no way that I would personally replace my E92 M3 with one, just because that car is still very special to me. 3 years on and I still have 0 desire to sell it. The M235i impressed me so much that I'm now on the waiting list for an M2. If the M2 wasn't coming out though, there's a good chance I would have replaced my E36 M3 with an M235i 6MT. What a sweet little car.

Picked up my M235i on Saturday. Already had one friend ask me 'why are you that douche who put a Fake M in front of the 235, don't do that man!', before I showed him it comes like that.
Oh well. I don't really care, this car is amazing. |

Personally I dont feel as if BMW should have slapped M logos all over it. Ill be finalizing my order for the 235i and have decided that because its so close to the m2 launch ill be de-badging it.
I really could care less if i get the douches that say i slapped logos on it, i just feel funny driving a car that is advertised as M when all of us enthusiast know it should have just been an 235is or M sport model Test driving it over the weekend it is one incredible little car, there is no ifs ands or butts about it. I just wish they had a 6speed on the lot that I could have tried since thats what im ordering |

From a badge perspective, as far as I can tell, the 2015s only have 1 M badge, and thats next to the 235, they took the side ones off for this year. |

Ah but it is different. "M Sport" is a trim line, like "Sport" "Modern" and "Luxury". BMW doesn't offer a 235i, but they do have an M235i. Why not embrace it for what it is? It's the middle child between the fantastic 228i and the yet to be released M2. What's wrong with that???
