235i Length: 174.5 in / 4,432 mm (2.8 in / 72 mm longer than 1 Series Coupe (E82)) Width: 69.8 in / 1,774 mm (1.3 in / 32 mm wider than E82) Height: 55.8 in / 1,418 mm (0.2 in / 5 mm lower than E82) 435i Length: 182.6 in / 4,638 mm (1 inch longer than E92 Coupe) Width: 71.9 in / 1,825 mm (1.7 inches wider than E92 Coupe) Height: 53.6 in / 1,362 mm (0.6 inches lower than E92 Coupe) But visually, the 235i looks a lot longer than the 135i, even if it isn't. I suspect it's because of the lack of flared fenders that the rear proportions look wrong. So I still stand by what I said, the lack of fender flares makes the 2er look a lot more subdued and (IMHO) not as exciting as the looks of the 1er.

Anybody that thinks the 1 series is better looking than the 2 series is someone who can't afford the 2 series. The 1 has to be about the ugliest car BMW made in recent memories, I'd compare it to the 5GT in bad proportions. The front would stop a freight train in its tracks. I was embarrassed every time I saw one and I've owned a lot of BMW's. At least the 1M was a little better but really looks we're not a 1 series attribute.

From the front, yeah I would agree with you.
But the back half, and especially the rear fender flares and the elongated bumper. And the sides look really flat and vacant with how little flare they've given it. The rear wheels look lost in the middle of a flat expanse. And "can't afford" LOL son, really... Looks are subjective, but if you're going to make personal attacks about the state of my finances just because (in some aspects) I like the looks of my 135 a little better than your precious 2-series, well that's just dumb. Saying the 1 looks better than the 2 or the 2 looks better than the 1 is a losing argument. Not to compare attributes but it's almost like saying someone with a c6 vette doesn't like the new stingray or vice versa. Some of it may be actual taste but I think when something new comes along which is SUPPOSED to be evolution in style is often liked because people tend to vote with their wallets. In addition, whatever is new will get a bump in popularity over the old because that's how society often works, you aren't cool because you got the new toy just like you aren't cooler for saying I'm sticking with the older.
If you bought a 2 series much like myself did, I don't think it has anything to do with finances. I think it means you literally voted with your wallet because you could have bought a 1 series. Or someone with a 1 could have traded towards a 2. The fact that people actually try to assign opinion to looks of a car is rather amusing. Buy and drive what you like and have fun, be thankful you're arguing over performance cars and not stuck with a 14' corolla. |

Are you talking M235i or 2 series?

I happened to test drive a 235i this past week and was quite surprised. I didn't think I was going to like the car at all from my expiernce with the f30 but I did. For me the steering is a good amount better then the f30 but still lacking against it's older brother 135i, hopefully this will be fixed through an eps update. The car cornered far flatter then I thought it would and it still had that great low end torque (still wish it had the n54) that I remember. I think this car is very pleasing from the front but wish they stayed closer to the 135i rear design.
For someone wanting to get into the BMW brand this is a great place to start. For a performance car it will have some stiff competition from ford. |

They are just different. I have had both. If i had to choose bar none it would be the 2. Even brought back the classic bmw driver slanted dash which the e9x era blew completely.

I agree totally! I am not happy with the first year production color options. At the price, the 235 options should be as bountiful as the 228. Fortunately, my dealer sees No Problem Getting a color special ordered from the 228 option list! Maybe a bit more money .... So what??
