Buy back is where BMW gives your dealer extra money for trade allowance to put you into another car. The dealer wins by selling you another car, and the car is never recorded as a lemon, Lemon law is not a good route unless you truly want to leave the brand, but it will cost you regardless.

So does the car just shut off when this problem occurs?

if the lemon law strikes, that's a good oppornity to upgrade your car to a M235i or 435i

The engine stops and all the accessories that run from a turning engine quit though current will still pull from the battery

Not necessarily. A buy back may be elective by the manufacturer or compelled by Lemon Law statutes. In either case, the consumer may take the refunded purchase price and either buy another same brand car or leave. The money goes to the consumer, not the dealer, unless the consumer decides to spend it there again.

Usually, that refunded purchase price has the vehicle mileage deducted from it, and in some states it doesn't take many miles to make the lemon-law buyback somewhat unattractive.

My dealer looked for me this morning, no open campaigns on my car currently. He also checked with service manager, who didn't know of anything. It would have been nice to get this taken care of with my other work, but I guess I'll have to wait until I get the letter.

Yep, slowly pulling into parking lot. Was going 10mph or so and started shaking then off. Wouldn't restart at all.

Dealer issued a "TC Case" for approval, BMW NA connected to car, said its LPFP failure, and it's finally being replaced today. Have been without the car since Friday. Should have it back tomorrow.

There are several ways to do the buyback actually that's one way to do it though and I've done it successfully and was very happy with the outcome

You don't want a reduced refund via lemon law you want a real solution or more importantly a new car.

Wrong. It's the LPFP that's over the gas tank under the back seat.

The lemon law does not apply to a faulty fuel pump, especially when it is being replaced free of charge. There has to be a significantly large number of defects that don't get fixed for lemon law to kick in.

I called my dealer yesterday and they said there is nothing they can do regarding the fuel pump until I actually receive the recall letter from BMW. From what I've been reading, that should be in a week or so.

In case anyone is interested, the recall has now been expanded to recall some 2015 model year VW and Audi models, too.
