Rear end looks better in these shots but still think its the weakest aspect. BTW Michelin PSS tires are a great choice. When my OEM runflats were done on my 1er I replaced them with the PSS tires (225/255). Very impressed with this tire. Huge improvement in every aspect over the runflats.

Does the 3 & 4 series have the same hard plastic bottom section?

Yes, I'm a tad disappointed as well in the interior. It seems that they didn't quite catch how the inner door handles are too far forward to create an easy door closing pull. And the window switches are still way up there. Any taller person that isn't practically kissing the steering wheel has to reach a good ways for them.
Small annoyances, I know. But something easily curable in a second release.

I really hope this cars drives and handles properly. This car, the 228i MSport in particular, would fit my bill perfectly for an affordable garage kept, fun car that would be used for spirited driving mostly (nice weather commutes, weekend twisties, occasional track days, etc...); but still have some practicality so its not and either/or switch between my daily driver sedan and this.
Looking forward to the first drives of 2. Hope it stacks up. Otherwise it might still be the Subaru BRZ for me (for pure driving experience alone). |

Wow lots of talk of hard plastic. I am very happy with the level of trim in my e82 and looks like I'll be happy with my m235i too.
Regarding wheels it's not often I think a production car "needs" bigger wheels but 18s look tiny, while the 18s on my e82 fit great. |

When even an audi a1 uses led!? I saw a 3 series the other day with incandescent brake lights and side indicators!! Come on bmw for christ's sake. What the people buying anything less than a 4 series need less premium treatment or what!? Ow waitt let me guess theyre holding it out for the lci right?? Pathetic dont understand why no one is saying something about it, be honest guys merc and audi or giving even their smallest costumers the full premium treatment so why bmdub aint!!!!!!!??!?

The wheels on the M235i look ugly and too small. The 228i sport line is actually looking really good.
I agree with everyone in that the interior looks a bit cheap. I'm sure it's different in person though. |

I could hop in a 1 series or hop into an Alpina B7, and still have a good handle on what controls what. Its clean, simple, and well put together (even though it's allegedly a good bit of hard plastic). |

But since we don't know how much the 19s will be, these will have to do for now...

Just something to think about when considering the 19"'s especially with the run flats. I currently have this set up on my 335is and it looks amazing. Downside is I've gone through 5 damaged tires and a full replacement, so far in just over 2 years of ownership. Apx $375 per tire gets very expensive. Keeping in mind I live in south Florida and have great roads. I'd be scared out of my mind if I were back in New Jersey or Boston. The slightest pothole could easily take out a tire and heaven forbid, get to the rim. There's not much room with the 19"s. The ride is quite a bit stiffer with the 19" as well so I feel the road much more. Good and bad, in some ways. Also, only expect 15k out of a set of tires if you drive cautiously. Big regret I didn't buy the tire warranty when I could. BUT, just had our first tire go on my wife's X1 M Sport, she has the warranty, and they wouldn't honor it because she had less than 4mm of tread left after 12,000 miles. Needless to say I was disappointed to have to shell out almost $800 total because her other back tire was low so, why not do both? I know, it's the cost of ownership... All that said, that's why I believe they chose to give the 18" on the M235i. They ditched the run flats and put a great set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports on it. As I understand that you can't change the suspension setup on the fly via "buttons" like the 228, I think the specialized setup for the M235 will be relatively stiff. Maybe they had that in mind when they chose the setup. I do like the look of 19" but there are some trade offs too. Just one owners experience with his really "cool" looking, really expensive in the end, 19"s.

I had originally thought we might see the same wheel design in the bright silver - I could have swore that was a no cost option somewhere with the M135 somewhere. But haven't seen them on the M235 anywhere that I can think of.
