http://editorial.autos.msn.com/best-cars-under-dollar20000#1 Yes, garbage. Now people that live in the real world, and want a new bang for buck BMW experience, can see that the M235 is a pretty good deal. A 2009 M3 isn't really going to deliver that. Especially since it's numbers don't really hold up here in 2014 where FI makes an NA engine look antiquated. And who wants to sit in a worn out cockpit? Don't get me wrong. I love my V8. But I also have sense enough to recognize that the M235 is pretty damn good considering where it sits in the market. Hell, 20k wouldn't buy an e30 M3 when it came off the line... ~27 years ago... |

if you are arguing about a classic like the M1, or the previous generations of 911s i could understand, hell, even a vintage mustang or corvette just because the way it sounds and looks. those cars are worth you spending money on to keep them alive and running but a beat up E46 M3(a great car, but just not THAT great) is definitely not the way to go. |

The above two posters are right, comparing an E46 to a brand new M235i is rather silly. Let's just say it is just as fast, very few people care. The updated cockpit and technology along with warranty and just a fresh take on a performance car is worth the extra money.
To say you should save money just to buy the M name in true form is just as ignorant as saying this car isn't worth 50k loaded to deal with everything that goes with an old and outdated car. |

That seems to be story with BMW these days. More artificial feeling cars that perform but without providing the pleasure and raw experience.

Can anyone here that has an M235i verify whether there is an oil temperature gauge?
I keep seeing comments popping up regarding the fact that there is no way to see the oil temperature (or coolant temperature). Thanks.

it has not built in oil temp, it can be displayed through OBD or on performance steering wheel, or through some of the black panel menus etc but no, no fixed guage.
As for M235i vs e46 hahahahaha. yeah you are dead right. Why not up spec and buy a fire damaged porsche for the money! |

I'm sure that the m235 is awesome. A great first intro to MPA in the states. Hopefully they will just role out a bunch more to lay the hammer to Audi S. Right know the Audi S line up is so complete, I don't know what's taking BMW so long to catch up.
These MPA vehicles are not designed to compete with real M, so it's impressive enough that it puts up similar numbers.

But hey, on the tech package upgrade, it says "M235" all the time ! Just in case you forgot which car you were riding in...

Unfortunately after seeing the car in person I have to say I think BMW had some visual design flaws. The body of the M235i is very lacking in contour. There is absolutely zero flare to the wheel arches. Which really surprised me since I've always considered that a BMW kind of tm. The body lines are very straight and dull. I was extremely surprised at how ugly/boring it was in person...

Not the case if you don't get the tech package - I have driven such a car, and you can rest assured that there's nothing there.

The M235i really seems like a home run by BMW but the lack of temperature gauges on a car like this is maddening, isn't it?

I could be wrong here but it seems to be bothersome to a few members and some seem to not care, I'll take a look once mine arrives if someone else can't confirm. |

The back looks disproportionately large and it makes the rear wheels look smaller than the front. The back simply doesn't look as aggressive as the E88. More and more I see the 2-series the more happy I become with my 135. Not really warming up to the 2 series... I mean why the hell did they make it bigger? Many of us bought a 1-series BECAUSE it was significantly smaller than the E9x chassis. Now, the 2er is about 2 inches shorter than the 4er. What's the point of the 2-series again?

Just stopped by the dealer for my service and I saw one of these. This was by far the most hideous BMW I've ever seen.
