There is no 18x8.5 +40. That was a mistake. Still et35. And yes, lower numbers poke more. The red car is actually 18x8.5 +35 with 3mm of the back pad shaved to end up at +38. I believe the white car is +35 (no machining). I contacted Jason and they're no longer offering the machining, so +35 is what you get. In the end, I decided to go less aggressive with Apex EC-7's 18x8.5 +45/18x9.5 +58.

Not positive, but remember, perception is skewed a bit, since the white vert has a 235/40 square tire setup, where as the red one has OEM 225 front, 245 rear. To me, the fronts on the vert definitely look more "bulky".
