bouncy at all? All the 1-series cars I've ever driven on just lowering springs got so bouncy over time....not to say the suspension setup is the same, but just curious.

Once I get some more miles on the springs to sort of break them in, I'll update on how they feel.

The windshiels is kinda high too, would have wanted BMW to push the windshield forward by 1-1.5 inches more than it currently is, then be able to tilt it back at a lower angle... ala 'cab forward' design that chrysler marketed in the 90's which basically Honda had for years before that, like the NSX... and thus the roofline could be lower by 1 inch... is all id be asking bmw for.... but my point, or question, the drop made by the spring install alone... which btw, for those of you that looked carefully and see the front drop is a tad more than the rear... I do agree after it was pointed out. do you guys in this exploration, simply dont recommend swapping out springs without also swapping in shocks/struts matching the new springs then, if you care about ride quality degradation? For me, if the roofline was 1 inch lower than present, i wouldnt fancy a spring drop, and the relatively large wheel well gaps with the stock rims, i'd just get larger rims / wider tires to 'fix' instead of lowering springs. Larger rims and lower profile tires to do the 'fill in' job won't impact the ride quality as much as that 1 inch drop via springs (only) is this generally agreed? |

I read a very detailed interview awhile back by one of the M guys at BMW responsible for the 235i adaptive suspension. It sounded like it was tightly tuned for the car. I know from talking with some *very* tweaky suspension experts, that adding spacers, changing wheel size or any similar changes can dramatically impact the calibration of the system.
The drop may not work for everyone, but looks sorta boss to me. (Viva la difference!) I'm sure the ride feels reasonable too. Just wondering if any sort of re calibration of the dampening or other components can/should be done to optimize the spring change? Any serious suspension experts care to comment? |

After putting some more miles on the car, the springs do feel a bit bouncier now, but not something that is really noticeable. I only experience the suspension bounce of the car in certain road conditions, otherwise it feels just like stock. I can't say if the car handles any better though (if it does, then it will be a small difference) since I haven't been back to the track with the springs.
I'm used to daily driving my GT3 and R35 GTR (with KW suspension), so the ride quality of this car even with the springs is obviously much better than those two cars, so my perspective might not really match up with the users on this forum who are looking for maximum comfort, in which case, you shouldn't be modifying your suspension/exhaust/etc anyways. |

I do too, barely. I also like not spending the money and not taking the depreciation hit or having to remove everything when I sell it later.
I think adding springs to a base or other non-sport-tuned version of a car is a great upgrade. There is a thin line somewhere between better stance and too low. This one flirts with it in front, though the rear looks nice. |
