As I said in an earlier comment, the A3 is a very nice car. Great value for the money and better than the 228 for some customers. Enjoy it!

Car & Driver lost me when they said leather on the 228 was a $4000 option. I understand they have a bias that leans towards Audi, but misinformation like that borders on out and out lying.

I only chose the BMW 228i due to the folding powered mirrors (but I had to pay for the Premium Package to get this feature), the removable head rests in the back since I am only 4'10" tall (the Audi's head rests in the back were not removable and were large and I did not want to drive with my seats down) and I preferred the look of a 2-door coupe. But I did enjoy the test drive in the highest Audi A3 model with the 12-way powered beautiful leather seats. The radio sounded good and the car handled well and was fun to drive. If the head rests were removable and it had powered folding mirrors, I may have gone back for another test drive back to back with the BMW 228i car. The sport seats in the BMW M235 and in the BMW 228i with the sport-line or the M-Suspension are a little too long for my legs and the plastic lever underneath bothers me so I went with an almost a fully loaded BMW 228i with a basic comfortable leather 10-way powered seat. My Alpine White bright, happy, fun and sporty BMW 228i car will be here to replace my current BMW 128i lease in July! I can't wait to drive it with all the new technology that I will have in it as well as the way the car handles! Last edited by Lynn_228i; 06-16-2014 at 05:28 PM.. Also the highest Audi A3 I tested since I had to get into that model to get the features that I wanted the car to have only allowed black and red for free exterior colors. All the other exterior colors were also $550 extra like the BMW charges. Also the price for the Audi A3 went up when I wanted the 10-way power seat with a back-up camera and navigation. But I did like that the 2015 Audi A3 (that is now available) came with AWD while the BMW 228 would not have that feature until 2015 and it is not out quite yet for ordering. I did not want to wait to order it without testing the car as I want to test the BMW 228i with the X-Drive and without the X-drive when the car is available on dealer lots. I will then decide if I want this feature in my next lease in 3 years. Maybe I will even buy my next car but for now, I keep getting better features in each lease as technology keeps improving on the BMW cars . Last edited by Lynn_228i; 06-16-2014 at 05:29 PM.. |

I'd bet the 228i is the more fun car to drive! The 1 series was tremendous fun to drive so why wouldn't the 2 series.
I also wouldn't buy a car based on what a general magazine says anyway. The A3 instantly doesn't appeal to me because it has 4 doors! LOL

I love fast sporty coupes that are so much fun to drive and I love the way 2-door small coupes look! I can't wait until my new car comes here! I also prefer two doors over 4 doors. It is easier for me to just bend the seat down then open another door when I am getting groceries out of the back seat of my car. I use both the trunk and the back seat for groceries as I prefer to do one large shopping trip and stock up than many small ones. I love my BMW 128i right now so I know I will love the BMW 228i even more since I will have more power, a more comfortable seat, more safety features (I got the driving assistance, driving assistance plus & the parking assistance packages), idrive and navigation that I did not have before (only had my Garman and the blue tooth in the car), and better lighting since I added the lighting package. |
