Not bad in my opinion. The interior is really nice and let's don't forget this is a B-Class competitor so I think most people would pick this over the Mercedes hands down.
My two points of objection are: 1) why use the 2-Series nomenclature when this car has no sporting pretensions, it is FWD and an MPV. While the odd/even numbers nomenclature makes absolute sense (at least to me), odd numbers being family oriented vehicles and even numbers being sport oriented vehicles, giving this the 2-Series nomenclature makes no sense at all and generally kind of makes a mockery of it. 2) The concept had the kidney grill integrated quite successfully both in size and shape in the front end. This front end looks - once again - squashed, in line with most new BMW offerings. Whether it is due to pedestrian regulations or other design restrictions this doesn't look as good as the concept. It looks too low and squashed. |

So why does this have HUD but the M235i doesn't? Also the sport seats look nicer than what is on the M235i

I actually like it. It's better proportioned than the Benz offerings. However, what's up with the nomenclature?? BMW is not being consistent with its badging at all...

Wtf is BMW doing with the nomenclature of their vehicles? They're all over the place.

It's really not bad for what it is. If it handles well for a FWD car and is priced right, I can see it having much success in Europe, if not in the US. I can see my wife liking this as a replacement for her A3 TDI if anything happened to it, as Audi has abandoned this market by offering the new A3 in the US as a sedan. Oh, they do plan on bringing in the A3 Sportback as a hybrid, but who wants that vs. a diesel?
Look, I enjoy my E90 and wouldn't mind a new M2 GC, etc., but don't berate BMW for trying to broaden their base in order to bring in younger/less affluent customers. Remember when Porsche and BMW started offering SUV's? The same hue and cry went out, but it's helped both companies meet their financial goals and thus continue to offer great performance cars that enthusiasts want. Cut them a little slack!

Is it correct? Why even bother with the B48 4 cylinder in the Cooper S and JCW if the 3 cylinder can make this power comfortably and efficiently enough for this vehicle?
I understand the juiced up 3 cyl in the I8 where they are doing everything possible to offset the weight of the electric drive. Edit: Nevermind, I just saw post 41. It is indeed the B48, not the B38. Edit2: from the press release: Quote:

Long list of fwd cars I would rather have than this thing. Especially in Europe, there so many good hot hatches to buy.
This car defeats the purpose of a BMW. I would shop other brands before I buy a fwd BMW. |
