Yes, absolutely, Lexus is attempting to do exactly what Benz and BMW are doing with their AMG and ///M lines. They use it for Sport Package labeling and they use it for insane version of normal models. That's indisputable. But an IS F Sport will have it's ass handed to it by it's direct competitors the Mercedes C 43 AMG and the BMW 340i M Sport. Does that make it clearer? This logic applies directly to the LC. It doesn't match it's competitors and doesn't meet GT car standards. |

I'm not sure I understand the 'Lexus is comparatively underpowered' angle. I have a 2011 GS350; 300 naturally aspirated horsepower, 275 "torques". 535i of same vintage, 300 turbocharged horsepower, 300 ft/lbs. torque. (BMW has lower curb weight but then my GS is AWD.) Similar MPGs.
Talking purely about power, I see no Lexus disadvantage. In fact I think their NA engines are underappreciated engineering marvels. All that power with no forced induction, and they run for a few hundred thousand miles with simple regular maintenance. Great powerplants. |

So it's well established that they are at a power and performance disadvantage compared to their BMW and MB competition, though I'll give you that during your specified time period, MB was far behind both with the weaksauce E350. They're not engineering marvels by any means. It's not hard to get 300+ HP out of a 3.5L V6 without FI. As far as reliability goes, you're right and I don't think anyone arguing against Lexus in here has even brought that up. I know I didn't... Last edited by davis449; 06-30-2017 at 08:28 AM.. |

So much bashing on the LC500 here.....
It's a great car. Much better than a 650i in my opinion. I kinda hope it doesn't sell as well as people think so I can pick one up for cheaper. |

Lexus is a distant 4th in the 4 majors (BMW, Audi, Benz).
To me, still a Toyota for geezers (LS, GS) and poor $30k millionaire millennials (IS) with an L on front to make them feel special. And the LC500 starts at $92K? LOL |

Pretty surprised by how many people find that car's styling to be appealing. Personally I think it looks awful.

Im really hoping that these end up not selling well and depreciating super hard...
... because i'd love to either buy one of these or a C7 Grand Sport as my next car at some point later down the line, depending on what I want out of a daily driver at that point in life. |

Last month's sales. June sales should come in sometime next week. I recall Lexus saying they hope to sell around 4,000 units a year in North America.

I just hope these tank in value hard just M5's and M6's do; I like how in 2016, a 2010 M5 could be had for the same or even less than a 2010 M3 given identical condition/mileage between both vehicles, yet one MSRP'd for roughly 150% of the other.
If the LC500 depreciates in a similar way to its german competition, I could totally see myself picking one up in 5 years or so. I think the F80 M3 (specifically the sedan, I just dont feel the M4 coupe nearly as much) has one of the most beautifully executed exteriors at any pricepoint; so much so that it would hands down be my absolute first choice for an upgrade from the E90 M3 despite my grievances with BMW reliability & maintenance. However, after test driving one, the S55 has taken it completely off my consideration list. I havn't drove an LC500 yet, but i have driven an RCF with a slightly detuned version of the LC500's V8, and enjoyed it very much. I'm thinking its going to come down to a 4Runner, C7 GS, or an LC500 depending on where I live, what kind of commute i have, needs of the family, and my intentions for the car. I'd imagine my E90 wont even be worth selling at that point due to the mileage and how little ROI i'd recover from the mods, so i'd probably keep it in the stable instead of replacing it. Also everyone that hope it doesn't sell well so you can pick one up later for super cheap; it should really be the opposite. If there are more of these available, than it would most likely be less costly pre-owned. Supply and demand, basic economics 101.

I should have said "I hope these don't sell well in the second hand market", although I dont necessarily agree with your basic econ 101 logic. Like you said, supply and demand; if it is selling in massive volume, then that is presumably because the demand is equally as massive, which doesn't always lend itself to mind blowing depteciation. It would definetely make it easier to find one a used example that fits my desired specs though! Either way, I am not a studied economist so my logic is worth very little anyway lol. What I can say for sure is that I'm a fan of this Lexus coupe!
