Not a fan of the new looks. Almost look Japanese or something to me. Anyway, I guess I’ll probably get used to them.
Love the new interior, love the 19” wheel size, love the reportedly improved steering feel. |

Well, with the MotorTrend pics, we're basically at full reveal two days early. The mirror mystery is solved, I guess, as the 230 gets the plain mirrors while the m240 gets the winged mirrors. The camo-d cars with the plain mirrors were 230s all along. It was hard to tell under camo as the usual exhaust "tell" didn't tell as the 230 is now getting split dual exhaust like the big brother.
Overall, I like it. I could imagine owning it. One thing, though... with those massive, nearly flat side sills, this isn't a car that I'd want to own in Alpine White. Those sills will be a dust and dirt magnet and will likely always look grimy. |

The new photos look ok. The rear end is still awful.
dradernh, yes, the aftermarket will make things better. Hopefully some blacked out tails or even a quad tip to replace it (think staggered, maybe like an Alfa Q). And at least larger wheels will be a go, as the fenders look like caves comparatively. The whole design is definateltely evolution. But in what direction? It feels like they borrowed a designer from Toyot...no, Subaru for advice... It will grow on me, and the aftermarket will blow it up. I look forward to seeing the aftermarket get ahold of these. josh Last edited by spidy512; 07-06-2021 at 11:16 PM.. |

AutoWeek now reports 4" longer, about 3" wider, so it's getting big, and 1" lower (ease of ingress/egress?). Automatic only. The first gen was already bigger than my old 3 Series!
https://www.autoweek.com/news/sports...0Non%20Openers I am so glad I have what I got back when....and will keep it!

What model 3 series is it? The F22 is almost a dead match with the E36 Coupe.

The size increase is pretty well dictated by use of the CLAR platform and it's fixed suspension and driveline mount points, otherwise I don't think there would be any RWD biased 2-series at all.
Compared with an E46 M3, the G42 M240 is 65mm (2.6") longer, 59mm (2.3") wider and 32mm (1.3") higher, so pretty close overall. |

They got rid of the cup holders in the center console!?!
No one else is commenting on the interior...

I'm glad the seats don't have the goofy high backs so that I would still be able to use my 4-point Schroth harness. Most of the rest of the interior looks like any other recent BMW. I would prefer a higher placement of the iDrive display, and the 8 function buttons. And that is a huge expanse of silver on the console cover. And no more hand brake! Overall, just Meh on the interior. The big turnoff for me is mandatory AWD on the M240. Even though I live in Minnesota, I really prefer the lighter weight, simplicity, and nimbler dynamics of a RWD car. You can make a case of AWD being necessary at 500+ HP like an M5, and yes, even my current M235 is traction limited, but at 360HP we should still have a RWD only option. I do like that purple though. Wonder how close it is to the legendary Techno Violet. |

The front end is mostly fine but the rear reminds me of a big bulky 1952 Buick Roadmaster trunk lid. Again, if the styling is definitely evolutive for the next 7 years to come I wonder what the LCI improvements will be to tame a bit what seems excessive on the new design. Overall, I prefer how the 230 looks over the 240 and I wish they would have kept the latter with more simple lines as we have on the F22. Personally, I don't like flashy cars. But, now we can only imagine how the next M2 will be close to "exotic".

But, my understanding from playing with the UK configurator, a nicely optioned 240 will be around $60K.

That's interesting. For that money, I'd rather have a base model M2. Of course, we don't know what the M2 pricing is going to look like. But the M4 starts at $72k, and they've got to slot the M2 below that, right? Maybe $66K?

After seeing it move and in more pics, I am still not sure what to think. Other than that I like the purple. The front end is OK, but not in a BMW way. It contiues to remind me of Toyotas, or the like. Or maybe old/new British coupes and convertabes, but not as good looking. HAHA. Aaand I totally agree on the 230 vs 240! I can't totally place it, but I think it is the obnoxious attempt to pay homage to the original M240i with the larger side scoops on the front bumper. It reminds me of the overly busy G80/82 front ends. Oh yeah. The hideous black/carbon skirts that surround the M240i are terrible. Just like the G80/82. They look cheap to me. I just went and looked at the released pics again. I also compared it to the Z4 as I really had hope they might incorprate some of the front end of that car. They did, but the wosrst parts IMO. Ugh, those lights... One other note that I keep forgetting to mention. The huge side "shirts" are going to be a pain in the arse. They remind me of my VA WRX/STi's in that their side skirts were wide, and protruded out from the car. It made ingress/egress a total PITA (especially in the snow), and I scratched mine regardless of how cautious I was to avoid them. These look huge even compared to a WRX...ugh. josh |

The new video has me thinking they need to fire their photographer. The car looks VERY good in the video. Im waiting to see what the M2 looks like, but highly tempted to place an order now if it was an option.. Also, comparing the options and changes, it covers most of my biggest complaints with my current m240ix - bigger tires stock - beautiful new interior with up to date technology - my current interior is almost identical to my 5 years older 335ix, which had top down camera view and HUD...which I gave up in the current car. - sounds like the m sport diff will be standard on m240ix - top down view (great for parking in cities) - heads up display - digital cockpit/dash - remote start - updated suspension - updated seats - updated b58 engine pretty much all of it is positive so far in changes that were needed for this redesign/refresh. No I dont love the headlights or tail-lights, but they matter significantly less to me than the seats, interior tech, tires, or engine. Last edited by AleksanderSuave; 07-08-2021 at 02:52 PM.. |

This page is displaying what it describes as BMW's early G42 concept sketches...
https://www.motor1.com/news/518816/2...-coupe-sketch/ The sketches are, of course, just sketches, but to my eye they seem to indicate that the designers were originally going for a smaller, more Porsche-like vehicle. |
