iDrive on my 2016 BMW makes MMI on my wife's 2016 Audi Q5 look like tech from 10 years ago. The more time I spend with it the more I like it.

I think iDrive is pretty intuitive. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you just know where things are, its a great system.
The thing that drives me crazy is creaks and rattles inside of my car. I have been chasing them for like 2 years now. I get rid of old ones, and new ones pop up. -There is a rattle above my head when driving, looks to be somewhere where the window meets the weather stripping, but could be also inside of headliner above my head. -Occasional rattle in passenger doorpanel, near the door pull/speaker. -I HAD a different rattle in passenger door panel. That was fixed. -Rattle in rear deck lid. (This was fixed, took a while to get it properly reproduced at dealer). -Current creaking in rear drivers side inside panel. Whenever the rear suspension is loaded/unloaded it creaks inside the cabin. Not sure if it makes noise outside or not though. -The armrest on drivers door is making creaking noises. This stuff has been driving me nuts.

The lack of backlighting on the speedo/tacho when in "daylight" mode - i.e. DRLs on.
Fine when the main beams are on - red backlighting...but why not just leave it on all the time? |

Here in Canada where we have mandatory daytime running lights we see countless cars driving around at night without their lights on because many manufacturers, like the Japanese, have illuminated dash lights. You constantly see these boneheads driving along with no lights on thinking because their dash is lit the lights are on. Luckily mine has auto light so not ever an issue but it presents a safety issue when you overtake cars with no taillights.

My minor grievances with an otherwise splendid car:
- iDrive navigation doesn't always tell me what side of the road a destination is on. Not sure why it only does this occasionally, but I hate it. - Steering wheel blocks auto-wipers status light so I have to crane my neck to see if it's on. I should just be able to see it in my peripheral vision, why doesn't it get a light on the dash? - The speed limit indicator is wrong probably 5% of the time and that's enough for me to lose trust in it. - The car should unlock when I put it in park, I dislike the double handle pull. - They really should let you set a default driving mode, doesn't make sense why they don't. - The 3-blinks-and-off is far too quick for a lane change and that's the most blinks they give ya! Really only useful for a token blink mid-merge that doesn't help anyone.

Overall very happy with my M235i
I just dislike how the radio turns off after 8min of the car being shut off. I sometimes do work in my car and like having tunes without having to put the car in AC mode or starting it up My E92 stayed on as long as the key was in. I can't find a coding option for this. Does anyone know if its possible to extend that time? |

The only thing I've fund that really bothers me is the control on the center vent that changes the temp of the air. I find it annoying to have to change it from warm to cold even though the HVAC is automatic.

I've found that it is still warmer if needed and moved to the red or cooler if blue than in the neutral - noticeably.
For example - with the knob in the neutral position, the air coming in was cold, I had the temp in the car set to 70 and it was 43 degrees outside, the car was not warm inside, once I moved the knob to the red position the warm air started coming through the vents. I've had my car for a couple of months now, and a couple thousand miles. I was at our local golf course yesterday and a guy in a mint 1990 white 3 series came over and commented that my car is 'special'...which I appreciated hearing.
So, I have two minor nits with the car so far...one are the door handles. Really dumb design imo. Way too big, and positioned too far forward so it is hard to control opening the door. Also a lot of road noise from the pss tires, can be really loud on some roads. I am going to be getting new tires in the next couple of months, hopefully the new conti extreme contact sports are quieter... Otherwise the car is a lot of fun to own and drive.

I must say, other than it not having a touch screen, I saw no issues with it. It was so easy to use, I think I was out of the car within 5 mins saying, I'm good with it. I don't know if it's because I wasn't using a touch screen, but inputs were nice and quick, unlike other touch screen setups I've used.
