After trying many options, I really like Gyeon Q2 Tire. Satin finish, lasts a long time, doesn't seem to run unless you really go overboard.

Traded my 2016 228i in for a 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid. Wife called me a “soccer mom”, LOL.

We had some great driving weather in MN on Saturday. A used G87 M2 popped up at my dealer and I was able to take it for a test drive. It had been about 10 years since I drove a manual but it came back to me pretty quick. At first I wasn't too impressed with the power until I realized I needed to get the revs higher-- still used to my 8 speed auto from the M240i. The steering response is incredible and the cornering is solid. Dang that is a nice car. I highly recommend driving one if you get a chance.

Might drive great, but those bumper covers and taillights I look forward to BMW's revision of the covers and taillights with the LCI. BMW has admitted they've pushed the limits with their styling as of late and will be dialing things back.

Yeah the new look isn't for everyone and it is quite the polarizing topic on the F87 and G87 forums. I didn't know what to think at first but after seeing a couple of different ones in person and getting the experience driving one it's really growing on me. Also, I feel like the toronto red and black sapphire colors look best on that car. The other available colors do not do it justice. But for full transparency I love the looks of all the M235's, M240i's, and both M2 generations. They are all awesome.

I'm very curious what differences the LCI will have, and especially interested in what the competition model will be like.

Black in the G87 is the best color. It does fix/mute the styling issues and is one of the few cars that pulls off black really well. A black G87 wrapped in satin PPF could look menacing. Red is pretty good too. I do like the body work. Has a first gen M3 vibe.

I recently (last week) got a really clean 2015 m235i with 36k from florida. Every factory option except heated seats which sucks in NY haha. This week i did the M style mirror caps, wrapped some stuff in carbon fiber on the interior and today did a bms intake. Loving the car so much so far!

I saw one in person Monday, in the Zandervort Blue or whatever. It was not a flattering on the car - and I didn't think it looked good from any angle. It looked like a Chinese ripoff of a BMW - cheap in all the worst ways.

I think the M240 actually looks better - but overall, the G series and their all digital dash are complete unappealing.

New catted downpipe

Today (well 2 days ago really) I installed a MAD catted downpipes on my 2017 M240. Already had MHD stage 1 so now running stage 2. I like a more conservative sound and this is just the perfect amount of roar. Power of course is noticeable especially in 5-7k rpm range. I am super pleased so far.

Was really wanting to save for one of the brands that run about 1k or around there but finally just said screw it and bought this one. Quality seems VERY good. Fitment was perfect. VS the VSRF this one has a more gradual taper down to mid pipe which I think might help with flow.

Watched a couple of install videos a few times through. Install took 1 1/2 hrs being careful. Only had to jack passenger front of car up.

I need to hook the laptop up to Fuzzy (228i) to track down an issue the wife experienced. She went to pull out the parking lot and the car shut off. The starter just spun when she tried to restart it. Some fine citizens pushed her out the way. She tried starting it after 10 minutes and it fired up without any issues. The trip meter was reset and clock needed to be set.

The ODB scanner reported no issues. I'm thinking it may be battery related. After sitting overnight, battery reported as 12.3-12.4v and 14.1v while running.

After many, many test drives. I may be coming home with an STI?

Amazing to go form 'I don't like it' to 'This is it'. Car enthusiasm is a fickle mindset.

If it does come home, then look out for my 228 in the classifieds.

Hopefully it's got some factory warranty. EJ25s in STi's are literally disposable engines. The engine was never really designed to be boosted and Subaru applied many bandaids to make it work so as long as you:

1) Don't really track it beyond auto-x
2) Don't do extended donuts
3) Don't go heavy throttle at a low rpm (below 3500rpms) in a tall gear (4th and above).
4) Don't go much more than a Stage 1 tune. These motors don't handle extra power very well.

EJ25 blocks are readily available to any dealer within a day or so delivery. That's telling about the reliability and demand for short block replacements.

I owned a 2012 WRX for 3.5 years. Loved it, but that turbo EJ25 always made me nervous. All my WRX and STi friends are on their 2nd or 3rd motors now. They all wised up and got built short blocks which aren't really expensive.

It's from Carmax and I intend on getting the extended warranty if I bring it home tonight.

My close buddy has owned 3 different STI's over the years. I recall he had a mechanical issue with one of them where he had to have the turbo replaced. He had an extended warranty which covered the replacement of the turbo. Aside from that they were good cars for him.

Did you end up bringing home the STI??

Installed colour changing LED footwell lighting and beyond super impressed. Considering the F2x 1/2 Series has little to no ambient lighting, this has made a huge difference in improvement and has livened it up big time for those night time drives. 🪩🤩

Found out the issue that caused my taillight to die again...wasn't wiring related.

https://youtube.com/shorts/qriUjorJw...DZRgUpCikpao3C

Looks like I'll be buying another taillight assembly. And to think this one was advertised as waterproof..

I came very close but, did not. I still deeply want an STI but thought it best to give it another 6 months. I also am exceptionally picky, and this one was just not quite clean enough for a car that only had 25k miles and would cost nearly $40g.

I'm moving into the city soon and I expect my R56 Mini is going to end up being my most used car. Currently it's just for snow but that tiny thing is so nice to park.

Ouch... I just had to purchase a new bulb holder assembly and wiring connector repair kit. Ground pin blew on both. Project for this weekend.

Got new tires installed today. The Michelin PSS set that had ~30K miles on them were showing a wee bit of cord on the outside shoulders in front, so I figured it was time. (Actually, I got the new ones a month or so ago but for various reasons, I was unable to get them installed until today.) I wussed out and bought the AS4s this time around. I don't think it ever gets down to 20 degrees here but you never know and I might want to take the car up to Tahoe one of these days. So far, I don't like them. They feel like marshmallows compared to the summer tires. Hopefully, this will go away as they get some miles on them (?)
