Oops, foolish error. It's the quarts that are 32 and 40 oz. But the difference remains the same, so OP would be getting 25% better mileage in the UK.

I picked up my car last night... today was the 1st day driving it to work.. my lie-o-meter said I got 31mpg, driving as I normally do. This is a car with less than 200 miles on it...
Mind you, my commute is mostly highway (I95 from near the DE line to a bit north of DC), but still.. I'm pleasantly surprised that the mpg is so good off the bat.. And this is a car that's showing a curb weight of over 3800 lbs.

M235 xDrive, 20k miles, average 22mpg (U.S.), that is 50/50 city and highway. Highway in Comfort, rest Sport. That is decent given 320hp and inline six. I can see low thirties when only highway but I would not expect more.

I been surprised by the nominal MPG being shown on my BMW Connect App's Fuel Level/Range. Over the last couple of months I've used it regularly, and it's been 33-34 UK (28 US) mpg - for an M235i Convertible (aand no, I'm not gentle with the driving!).
The above is probably the best at 36 UK (30 US) MPG. Makes me wonder if the on-board computer reads pessimistically, like the speedometer. The Speedo' reads higher than actual MPH 'coz in Europe it's illegal for a manufacturer to show under-the-actual mph, so they err on the side of caution. I can imagine that BMW are pessimistic re mpg so that you don't run out of petrol, hence people reporting their gauge at zero but still making it to the gas station.

highway mpg
I've got 6k mi on my 228i convertible and regularly get 32 mpg on the highway doing low 70's. Around town, getting 26-27mpg. I'm quite satisfied with that.

If you were really easy on it on the highway at say a constant 75-80 MPH what they would the MPG be?
My cousin has a CLS 63s AMG and I believe he gets about 16mpg which is about 25% better or more for a car that has another 200 Horsepower. Shows how CD may help play a roll Last edited by stylinexpat; 06-14-2017 at 02:12 AM.. |

As far as MPG is concerned, I've never trusted what a car's ECU tells me. I zero my trip meter right after I fill the gas tank. At the next fill up, I divide what my trip meter shows by the number of gallons shown on the pump. I always finish filling the tank by hand, with as little flow as possible & listening for the sound of the gas moving up the filler tube and beyond that first auto-stop of the pump.
Yup, I'm on meds for that level of OCD. BTW, in the first 3 weeks of owning my new-to-me car, I'm averaging 24mpg with roughly 60% hwy / 40% city driving, most of those being the morning and afternoon commute. |

M240i w/ Dinan Stage 1 getting 25.9 - 26.2 in town. Could not be happier. No extended highway driving (most having been a 200 mile run on the interstate and watched the mileage climb to just over 27 MPG). Confident that if I were to run a long time on the interstate, car would easily get into the 30+ MPG range.
I find it amazing that a car w/ this performance can return such great mileage. Remembering the 60's cars of my youth when 10-12 MPG was normal and performance was way less, we truly live in the best of times.. |

So yeah...I find it pretty amazing, too, considering the 70's/80's cars of my youth. 28-31mpg on a car weighing 3800 lbs. is impressive! |

Tried today in a 235i M and at between 75-80mph I was able to get around 40mpg innEco mode on freeway and at 80-85mph I could get 36-38mpg on freeway in Eco mode which is not bad. In the city the numbers drop in half

I always do urban driving, some freeways but most with heavy traffic, being just a little bit more light on the throttle I manage to get 6.2lt/100km (37mpg) on Comfort mode. Given my car has a small engine it can be much more fuel efficient if I tried hard enough.
