This isn't meant to be at all sarcastic, but if you find the statement which best matches your attitude, it might help with your tire decision:

"I can probably make it through winter as is. Lots of folks do. I'm willing to take that chance in order to avoid the cost or hassle" = Keep your all seasons on.

"I realize more traction on ice/snow is helpful in winter, but it's really important not to give too much of the fun factor away; I want to still have sporty performance on winter dry days" = Performance winter tires

"For winter, I put away most thoughts of performance and fun, and just want to get through with the lowest reasonable risk of losing traction/getting stuck/having a crash. = Studless winter tires

Got my 235 in March of 2014, so went thru last Chicago Winter with it. The only thing I did was take off the Michelin PSS and run Michelin Alpin PA4 in a 17" 225-45 square set-up.

Where have you found 17" PA4s? I was looking for them but they were available only in 18". I ended up with a set of Pirelli Sottozero 3.

My bad. I actually got Michelin Primacy PA3s, just looked at them as they are still wrapped up in my garage from last Winter. Sorry about the miss information, I did go down to 225/45-17 square set-up though. I got the rims, tires and TPMS from Tire Rack.

Weird, looking at tirerack.com it doesn't look like they are available in 17" now either.

I also got the rubber mats from Weathertech, I just drove to Bolingbrook to pick those up. I'd recommend anyone that is close to them to check out their showroom, pretty impressive set-up they have.

I currently own some weathertech mats in my current car and I was planning on getting them for the new car as well.

this pretty much sums it up haha......personally I fall into the first category. I've got Xdrive with all seasons year round. The city I live in is all flat terrain and we only typically get bad snow a handful of days in the winter.

Does it damage the PSS tires to use for 2 months in the cold? My current lease expires March 1st so I am planning on a mid February delivery of a M235i Xdrive, I would rather not do A/S, (even though I have for 25 years), but my question is could I live with the summer tires for 2 months of winter, or will this damage the tires? Would so much rather buy winter wheels the following season.

They get very hard and very slick in the cold so be careful.

Thats not the question to be asking...The question is does driving a summer performance tire in cold temperatures pose a safety hazard to me, my family and others on the road?

The answer would be YES.

I agree, after more research I am ordering this Saturday with the PSS and ordering winter setup(Pirelli WS3) to be delivered and installed before I drive off the lot.
