I think the thinking is canada likes the mid split for skiiing all the time... US prefer 60/40 ?

+1 this is begging for 3d printing! Finally a good use other than game miniatures!

Not this part of the US. The option for the pass through or an armrest would be fantastic. 60/40 is just cutting corners.

This. I was really ticked at the lack of a passthrough to the trunk through a center armrest and even more so when I found it's available elsewhere.

I guess if BMW gave me a pass-through I would think that's ok. But to be honest, I just sold my Audi S4 and in 10 years of ownership I have NEVER used the center pass-through. So I guess I will live.

The real benefit of the pass-thru is that it gives the back seat passenger an armrest.

Any updates on this?

Long time lurker- first time poster...

Just took ED of my 2016 228i! Black Sapphire Metallic; M Sport; Oyster Dakota leather; 6 speed manual; Premium package; Harmon Kardon.

Love the car, but have 2 preteens that sit in the back. Would love to find cup holder: bottles of water only, of course!

Has anyone had any luck with this?

Since we are on this topic, I suppose I could ask if anyone intends to covert the center tray into a padded seat?

It would work as an emergency seat at times...

And for my dog that HATES the hard depression in the center. I actually laid a large sponge in there to give her some cush!

Just reviving this thread since it hasn't been updated in almost 3 years. So it looks like this rear cup holder is now sold in the US and it fits the 228, 230, 235, and 240 according to this site: https://www.bmwpartshub.com/oem-part...hoCz_sQAvD_BwE Anyone end up getting it and can confirm snap-in fitment on a non-vert?

Won't fit. That part specifically says it is for the convertible. The seat base tray that the cupholder unit snaps into is shaped differently in the convertible vs the one used in the non-convertible. The convertible bottom seat cushion is actually shorter and that may have something to do with it.

Thanks for confirming. It's weird because the site is listing it as compatible vehicle fitment

In the Canadian cars with the through-loading, the cup holder / tray is an integral part of the armrest, the armrest part number with black Dakota leather is 52207293845:

Look at the link again. It says in the description: "Convertible, without load through."

Likely you were on a third-party vendor website. I just called two local US dealers who looked up the part using my VIN... not a match, unfortunately. They also investigated model fitment listed by the part code, which confirmed the bad news.

A suggestion, when any of the M235 owners are in the showroom, borrow the cup holder and try it in your car. Also would apply for 228 owners as well. This will give us all the desired info we're after.

I rarely have adult passengers in the back just the grandkids and they don't eat or drink in Pop-Pop's car. I took out the cup holders.

(Reviving this thread once more for anyone that happens to come upon it.)

I happened upon the below custom 3D-printed cupholder insert that apparently fits the middle rear seat cubby in our F22’s/F87’s. I haven’t purchased one, but I’m intrigued nonetheless.
