N55 with factory tune to around 370hp should be pretty decent. I don't see a problem with keeping the N55 engine with a normal Air-to-Air intercooler. My hope is that BMW will upgrade the turbo and intercooler in line with the upgraded power output.

I am guessing, but 99% won't fit since the M2 has flared guards

I'm a little disappointed. BMW are clearly marketing this car to the younger M driver and mini M3 drivers car (aka e30-e46) yet it's missing so much that should go with it. Sure it's got the base ingredients to make it the drivers car choice but they could have done so much more.
- CF roof would have finished this off appealing to younger M enthusiasts this is aimed at. - Std 2er seats with M logo who are you trying to fool? Pathetic actually - Lack of M mirrors - I know they are just mirrors but such a simple thing. Every M3 has had them including 1M. - Whats with the cheap 3M DiNoc carbon trim - Not liking the reflectors in the rear bumper vents. Will this be deleted like 1M as Oz don't require them. Otherwise blacking them out should solve that I guess Having said all that I'm still interested but it's going to come down to price here. With the price drop of m3 and adjustments made to the 2 series pricing and given the lack of features mentioned above. Pricing should be 100k imo no way 120 as that's used M4 money and light stretch to a new M3 in the scheme of things. If it's <110K I'm getting M2 otherwise M3 here I come |

I won't be upgrading for a while now for sure. Lack of ///M seats and mirrors is downer. Just not enough difference to M235 to rush changing yet.

not sure if this has been posted - i come across it at work killing time between meetings
I'd have thought it would have a bit more grunt on paper. am i wrong thinking a m235 with a few good mods will have similar figures??? http://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/n...14-gk8pbq.html

...."The comparisons of the M2 to the M235i are out of place IMHO. The notion that a tune or a turbo upgrade will match the two cars is unfounded. I am amazed at the laundry list of changes seen in the M2: bearings, mounts, stiffening, optimized air flow, turbo integration to exhaust manifold like in the M6, aero body optimization, drivetrain hardening, M4 suspension, subframe hard mount, proper diff, oil sump, cooling, extra cooling, DCT or optimized 6MT... Did I miss anything? M235i advocates are overlooking all this when pricing and power figures are the basis of the comparison suggesting the M235i is similar. The M2 sounds to be an M formula car. By formula, I hypothesize the M division proposed a certain set of qualities and met them with this new car, in which, most parts were optimized with concerted testing and design steps. No tuners M235i should feel close. This IS an M car. Period" |

Has anyone had any indications on price? I called a dealer yesterday and was told it would be two months before a price was available! I'm seriously doubting that.

Yeah I agree. I couldn't care about mirrors or carbon roof etc - make damn all difference in a car weighing near 1.5 tonnes anyway. It is the go bits not the show bits that interest me and they are different where it counts.

Had a closer look at the pics and specs and a bit disappointed after analysing all the info...
Actually I think the front bar is a bit busy and the rear bar is a bit stubby... reflectors not my cup of tea. Might look better in real life I'm hoping. Interior being the same as other 2 series sans some blue stitching is a bit of a cop out too. The engine/exhaust sound good on the vids. So I'm sure it will drive great and sound awesome. I know I'm flogging a dead horse... but if I'm going to buy an M, I want the M mirrors/seats/interior. I want the exclusivity of the M. Not so much for the function, but more because you have bought the pinnacle or flagship of the series and there shouldn't be a need to add/customise things. I know not everyone would agree... For the money it'll be awesome to drive. But missing a few things which should have been included. I think AMG are on the money compared to M in this regard unfortunately. M are resting on their laurels a bit. Last edited by im_dave; 10-14-2015 at 08:21 PM.. |

The styling for the M2 is ok. I really need to see one IRL. Like most new BMWs I think the design too fussy, but I like old school BMW..
I think its kind of stupid putting 19" wheels on a track focussed car. 18" wheels and lower ride height would make a better looking and better handling car IMHO. |

I appreciate what all of you guys are saying, but really M2 is built to a price. If they include all the goodies you get in M3/M4, then who is going to buy the M3/M4? Or alternatively they will be priced so close to the M3/M4 that no one would buy the M2. So be happy with what it is. A small coupe with M3 mechanical goodies that will drive almost as well as a M3, and possibly more nimble. For what it's worth, I noted the following ommision relative to the M3/4:
Carbon roof CRFP boot lid (for M4) Aluminium bonnet M seats HUD M buttons for individual settings (there are 2 in M3/4) DCT inidivudual settings Adaptive damper Nappa leather Extended leather (dash, bottom dash, doors etc) CF interior (vs what looks like fake CF?) M mirrors LED headlights Bespoke M dials with warm up lights and shift lights There may be others but I can't think of them now. I am still keen on the M2 even though I have M3 and M4. I think it's just a nicer size car. Last edited by WAY; 10-14-2015 at 11:16 PM.. |

M mirrors M cluster with oil pressure M button M2 on door sills not just M like any series gets with m sport options The lack of proper seats is just a total cop out. As it stands pricing needs to be 100-110k max! Anything higher and they have lost the plot when you compare against 1M and competition like AMG 45 and RS3. And with some haggling have a M3 high 136-140K |

That's purely my view, nothing to do with what the yanks say. I hardly read what they say anyway.
To me, you are just looking at this the wrong way. M2 is really a M4 Pure Edition with a less sophisticated engine. 2 series is based on a shortened 3 series chassis. So with all the suspension brakes diff gearbox etc, it's really a short wheel base M3 with a slightly weaker engine. RS3, A45 are based on A3 and A class chassis. Not in the same league IMHO. RS3 is not related to RS4 at all. Even the Quattro is fake. Similarly A45 has nothing to do with C63 aside from the seats. So would you rather a stripped down M4 or a tarted up A class and A3? That's the buyer's choice of course but to me the M2 is a bargain as a driver oriented car. Really, RS3 and A45 are very expensive relative to S3 and A250 sports. In terms of the price relative to M3/4, you are comparing the price of a coupe to a sedan, and the discounted price relative to the potential list price. Not exactly a fair comparison. M4 is $149k list, so if M2 is $99k, then you're getting a M4 pure edition at a bargain. If you can get such a big discount on M3/4, then you should be able to get it for M2 as well. And if you think the gap is too small to a M3 and you can afford to pay for the extra $25-30k, then go buy a M3. That is the point of it. Different market segments for different people. |
