Stop in at a dealer and ask for help from a BMW Genius. There is no charge for this service and they are very knowledgeable and usually very personable, even in New York!

Whoops should have read your profile sidebar, the M235i doesn't have the auto-rev-match. There are two blue shifters, one that asks for a gear change, and one that asks for neutral for auto-stop (it has a >N). But yeah, there are other factors as Aspen235 said, and if you never get the car asking for the >N, then you know it's one of those and have to debug from there
