I think you need to examine the time frames here. There is a reoccurring problem in Toronto were people are driving into a streetcar tunnel and becoming stuck in the tracks with sever damage to the cars undercarriage. This is an after shot not someone being removed from a shopping area.

When viewed in context the car had to be moved via that method, no other way around it. Wasn't malicious damage to the vehicle, was rectifying a dangerous drunk driving onto sunken tram lines where ordinary tyred vehicles can't access.

I should have added, before posting, that this is what I believe the pics show. I caught a news article on TV showing a blue 2 series and many other vehicles stuck in the tunnel and assumed this was one of them. I guess it could be an over zealous parking cop who doesn't like BMW owners.

It's still crazy to see a car being "moved" using this method. I've never seen something like it before!

This is how they should handle cars illegally parked in handicap spaces.

I took a look on Google Maps at this street. This guy must have been significantly impaired, as he would have had to drive a distance on the tracks above ground, after missing the turn onto the automobile roadway, and there is that downward ramp heading underground which he apparently still missed as a clue. Take the car, license, and figure out the jail time.

After seeing the photos and then watching the video...I'd say the $500 fine is the least of that owner's problems...

Wow - Maybe if he was blocking a fire zone during an emergency, this could be justified but any other circumstances, the city violated and did too much..

Why is it called "streetcar"?
Naming it "streetcar" is confusing af. Sounds like an invitation to a drivable road. I had to reread several post in this thread in confusion several times, until finally watching the video to realize it was train/subway type lane. |

Why not use tow hook and drag it out? Not very well thought out. Yes the drunkered deserved it but you could have saved tax payers money by not having to get special crane. Extra man power and OT. Delays would have been much less if they called local tow truck or their own tow truck with winch.

I don't think a driver in English-speaking Ontario can find any shelter for their impaired driving mistake in the general population use of the official name.... https://www.ttc.ca/Routes/Streetcars.jsp

That is just really stupid of the construction crews to use a freaking crane to remove the BMW from it's spot - why not call for a tow truck or flat bed? Would have been much easier to move instead of moving it with a crane - did they do a safety analysis of the crane lift? I guess the construction crews were just bored and needed something to do! Ridiculous.

This thread clearly indicates the 2 series needs wider tires.

The driver was drunk and drove his car into the streetcar tunnel. They had to get a special crane vehicle that can run on the streetcar tracks to get the car out. Sure hope the driver has to pay for this himself..
