Dirt roads, race tracks, extreme temperatures and short runs are bad for oil. Avoiding these on my DDs gives me some comfort with the manufacturer's recommendations.

There is some variance built into the recommended oil-change interval, though I don't know precisely what the parameters are in BMW's model.

On my 2016 M235 (no power mods at the time), I ran a used oil analysis on BMW 0W-30 LL-01 oil that had 6,500 miles and 6 months on it. This is the oil BMW recommends. The oil tested very nicely; however, the viscosity was just barely in within the range of 0W-30 and would have fallen out of range in probably 1,000 miles or so. This information tells me that in order to keep the oil within the spec'd viscosity, it should be changed at around 7,000-7,500 miles. Once my last free oil change is done, I'll be doing 7,500 miles oil changes rather than the 10,000 mile/year change BMW says is appropriate. I'm currently changing the oil between the free changes.

It could take me 2+ years to hit 10k miles. If you don't drive much like me you should change the oil once a year, even if you don't hit 10k miles.

Exactly- that's what BMW calls for as well.

I see a lot of people saying that they only trust BMW oil filters for the m2x series, I've used mann filters for years and had no issues, has something changed or is there something special about the bmw oil filters?

pretty sure you can find leaks with a black light easily with liquid moly which for bmws with n54 n55 etc is pretty handy. |

i have heard accentric shaft failures can occur from using aftermarket filters. k and p engineering sells a metal cleanable oil filter which i bought. mann or aftermarket can shrink up and it affects oil pressures thus not allowing the right lubrication to all parts.. at least thats what i researched so far

I am looking at going to Liqui Moly. But I cannot find the difference between their own oils. I did the whole "drop-down menu" to find which of their oils are approved for my M235i XDrive. But between the 4 or 5 choices it gave I don't know which is best for my car. Is there a link or thread that explains what each one of their oils are specfiically geared too? Because I cannot find one through the search of this forum and through a google.
I am trying ot find the best oil for longevity/performance. I have Stage 2 FBO, and live in a climate of 10-100 degrees F. |

Mann is an OE supplier to BMW and a lot of other manufacturers. BMW filters are Mann filters and are excellent!

I switch to liquid molly when I bought the car and did its first oil change. FCPEURO has a oil change kit for i think $60 for full synthetic, a mann oil filter and a life time warranty even on oil. So on the next oil change you pay for the replacement oil change it get a flat rate shipping box and return the used oil and they refund the price of the kit. So from here on out an oil change is the cost of the flat rate box you need to ship it back
