Since the M235 cabrio is my wife's car (and, somewhat of a daily driver), I have to listen to her parameters for our next car. She requires one car in the house to have back seats and a cabrio is a must. I prefer some sportiness and don't like a hardtop cabrio. (style-wise and loss of trunk ******* We both prefer the German feel of the BMW and our AMG GTS . (the GTS feels like the love-child of a C7 ZO6 and a 911 Turbo....German, yet raw)
So, the plan is to get a 2019 C43 cabrio. The 2019 has some changes that are significant to us and if we wait a year, we can take advantage of the typical AMG depreciation on a low-mileage car.

Do you use it as a daily? How much worse is the ride? Thinking about test driving one which is dangerous for me as i'll end up buying.

The GXX CLAR platform cars seem to be getting rave reviews as lighter, sharper, faster, and more communicative evolutions of their FXX counterparts, so the 2022 G42 2-series might be a significant enough of an improvement to justify an upgrade. Or a G20 3-series if I find a nice woman, settle down, and start a family.
The midengine C9 Corvette “Zora” looks like it might be a legit supercar killer. It could be the pinnacle and last hurrah of the combustion engine. So that might be worth picking up depending on price and final specs. And lastly I really like P-cars, even the switch to turbos on the Base and Sport models. If I could find a cherry of a used example of either the Cayman or 911 at the right price I’d be tempted to upgrade . |

At this time, I can think of no car I'd rather have than my 2018 M240i xDrive convertible. Maybe if I could tweak it to a 2019 or a few small upgrades, but no.
I want to have a year-round car here in hot summer vicious winter Michigan. I want a convertible. I want smaller rather than larger. Not super low like a real sports car: we're old and like to be able to get out of the car. Enough room for short day trips, no need for more than two people. There's nothing in or near its price range that I'd rather have. |

I don't want to think about it! This is the best-driving car I have owned in my many years of ownership. Well, except maybe for the steering. Ah for the steering feel of my old E46. But no new car will duplicate that, and no, don't tell me to get at Caterham.

Fox body ('79-93) Mustangs were a few inches longer and taller than the C7 Vette. The only dimension in which the Vette is larger is width, by about 4-5 inches.

This thread is well timed for me because my 2014 228i M-Sport will be paid off very soon and, having only done 22,000 miles in it and taken great care of it, it's still actually worth something in a trade-in.
I know I have at least one more "pure" sports car in me, especially now that I no longer have young children to ferry about. It's time for a Porsche and, because my driving is 70% city (Los Angeles) and 20% highway, I am resisting the advice of all the 911-or-you're-not-driving-a-real-Porsche purists and am interested in a Cayman 718. I am from Europe so I am not a "bigger is better" performance car enthusiast and have no objection to high-output turbocharged fours. However, I am yet to become fully familiar with the brand so I'd like to ask you all the following questions: - Are all new 718 Caymans available with a manual transmission? - Is Porsche still making the Cayman S and what would you expect to pay for a new one, manual, bone-stock? Meanwhile I still love my well-modified 228i. It's genuinely quick, well-tuned and fits me like a glove so I am not in a great rush.

Most likely an M2, likely a barely used N55 variant as some of my mods could transfer over and I could save a mountain of money vs the M2C. The N55 variant will be far cheaper to maintain and has a lot less tech and things to go wrong. I could see myself keeping it for a very long time as it's an easy car to work on and really not much different from my M235 mechanically. I want the M3/M4 suspension and eLSD underpinnings, sexy body, lack of adaptive shocks, and the improved power from the factory. It's more raw than my M235 which I'm all about.
I'm a huge Porsche fan. I like all the newer 911s and Cayman's, but my God are they expensive to buy. I can afford a newer 911S or Cayman S, but the cost to maintain one is nuts plus it's damn near impossible to work on one yourself. I also think they're pumped up with too much tech now. I'd need to be much wealthier to justify owning one because I'd feel damn guilty throwing so much money at it in expendables and maintenance/repairs done by others than myself. I think my ideal and realistic garage will be: 1) M2 (N55) 2) Newer RF Miata with the more powerful motor, suspension, wheels, near track tires (auto-x and road course car) 3) 2012-2014 Lexus ISF

I'm liking the new 3 series. My hope is that they do a 340 wagon/M Sport/X-Drive.

There are 4 things that made me choose the 2 series:
In that order. I plan to keep my M235i for a long time. When the time to retire this car comes, if manual is not an option for the 2 series, I'll just go with a supra or a cayman. Either of them checks 3 out of the 4 boxes. Last edited by rainfall; 12-04-2018 at 05:20 PM.. |

Currently in my early 20's and have a 228i so I dont really have a need for a family vehicle. But maybe down the line I'll get a 340i.. or the new Genesis G70

I'm leaning towards an N55 M2 for my next car. I really like my M235i, but I love the wider stance and rawness of the M2. Plus I'll get some nice extras I'm missing in my M235i - heated seats/steering wheel, backup camera, active safety features, etc.
I also have a 2002 that's a fun toy car/never-ending project. Might hold on to it to get my old school analog fix.
