I was certainly hoping I would be able to have the best of both worlds with an auto that functions like a manual. |

I'm turning into a bitter old(middle) aged man. Nothing new interests me, I swear the sweet spot for cars in my life is from like 93-08. I don't like any of the "classic" stuff really, and all of the new cars being so grossly overpriced and filled with driver nannies and techie crap just put me off in a big way. I've owned BMWs exclusively since like 01, but at this rate I just cannot see buying another. Sure the M2 is nice, but that price....good grief it's outrageous for what you get.
I learned to drive on a stick, and in the 25 years since I've owned nothing but manual transmission cars. Maybe just marry the Z4M, and in a couple years see what pops up on the RHD import list for a MKIV Supra or something. ;D |

The DCT on my M4 is a terrific tranny. I suffered through the SMG on my M6 and it was the worst transmission I ever owned.

I don't think its supposed to be faster. The ZF will be able to withstand more TQ. With that being said I will miss DCT.

No, I haven't. And it may change my mind about BMW DCTs. But this doesn't change the fact BMW dropped the ball big time with the DCT used in the 1 series. If the DCT trans are similar between the M cars and the non M cars, then why hasn't BMW tweaked the software to fix the issues we're experiencing. There has been zero software updates since SIB 12-15-14. I stand by what I said. If BMW just didn't want to continue sorting out the issues with the DCT in the 1 series, they should have just left the ZF in place. While I do get why people rave about the shifting in a DCT, I have to daily drive my car and the low speed 1st/2nd gear driveability issues trump any of those advantages. And frankly if I wanted to really set my hair on fire and get an adrenaline rush, I'll just take out either one of my sport bikes.

But the fact you all with M cars and DCT say the DCT has been a dream to experience/drive, tells me BMW knows how to properly code the software to behave properly at low speeds, low gear, and with the A/C on. All I'm asking is for that brain power to make this part of what should be expected as a given for basic driveability to be applied to getting the DCT issues in the 1 series fixed. I'm not asking for M car performance in the software update. Just to get the car to operate like any other car on the road. |

The end of DCT??? Say it ain't so!! I hope not. I can see a traditional torque converter Auto for a XDrive XM*. But At least keep it around for the next M3/4
The rational here is excuses. If Porshe can perfect it, so can BMW. Porshe PDK is superior and Turbo models have 600+ HP. So I'm not buying this. I think it comes down to BMW not wanting to spend the money for development costs for a separate Tranny. http://www.bmwblog.com/2017/04/21/bm...ons-soon-gone/ https://www.google.com/amp/jalopnik....1794558556/amp |

GrussGott Here is your future - an automatic transmission! But remember - as a "sports car enthusiast" if it's best for performance, you automatically (pun unintended) have to love it!

Weirdly the DCT on my 335i was just like that at first, but it was completely fixed with an ECU update (at the time, by getting the PPK). It went from being awful in traffic to being great.
Same engine (N55) and trans. Running MHD tunes now, still just as good. Weird how experiences with the 3 series seems to be so different to the 1 series. TCU and/or ECU software is different? |

Can't say I'm surprised...
Giulia which was praised quite a lot, has it and no one brought this up as a negative in the reviews I've seen ... I really enjoy it in my car. It shifts quite fast and it's smooth in day to day traffic. |

I may get shot for this, but good riddance to the DCT.
So disappointed in mine. Clunky, not the smoothest nor the fastest. What's the point? I really miss my 6MT M4, but those days are gone for me personally (injury). If they cannot make the DCT equal or better then It's competitors ... time to find something they can. |
