No one should ever feel hurt. Its just a car and its getting cheaper by the day in depreciation. Drive and enjoy it. Its life and its short. Enjoy!

The M235i is the most car for the least money, there's just simply no debate. I wish it were a little less cute looking. My eyes, though.

Take price tag off and the M4 is the better car...imo I know we all can afford a more expensive car but is our car the only priority in our life?

I would assume most of the people on an automotive message board prioritize cars much more than the average consumer, hence we will spend much more of our disposable income on cars.

A new Ferrari 458 drove by our house the other day. Gorgeous car and fantastic sound. Ignoring the price, it is probably one of the better cars on the road today... depending on your mission, of course.

That was just in reply to your comment about priorities. I of course agree that the M4 is better than the M235i, and the price difference is justifiable as well. I can also see where others might disagree with the latter.

The M4 is a technical marvel that is oversized and not at all what I like in cars now. Its marginal capability over the M235i in my opinion in no way justifies the price of entry. Fully loaded I wont even look at it. I will be in a Cayman GTS and Ive got my eyes on the Alfa 4C. Both far more interesting than the M4. There is a very good chance the 4C will be in the collection soon. |

M235i with M performance fixed suspension, M performance LSD, and you have a weapon, for much cheaper than an M4.

The base m4 here is $20k more but the m4 has alot of standard options like Nav/leather/CF bits where the m235i are optional items which will increase the price. But back to my point, this review is giving the m235i the trophy cuz its the better bargain / bang for the buck and Im trying to say its irrelevant to compare cars on price tags and not performance alone...but i guess reviews will be boring if it was just all on spec numbers

M235i is an amazing car. It's just the 2 series feels so so so cheap. Cheaper than the old 1 series did which I liked a lot also.

I drove both the m235i and the M4 and if you drove reasonably fast cars before, the m235i will feel unsatisfyingly slow, whereas the M4 feels quite decent in power. Moreover, the m235i is smaller but not much lighter if any. As with the gearboxes, there is absolutely no contest, the M4 DCT is worlds better than the 8-speed auto. Plus the m235i must be optioned withe the LSD if you want to use the available power for more of the time.
What I really don't like on the m235i is the lack of serious tuning capabilities for its N55 engine. The turbine is too small and the ECU is very hard to crack. If that would be possible, it would open a new world of possibilities. Basically I would say the price difference is justified. |

Lots of insight in that article. Then again, the 135i was frequently compared to an E46 M3.

Can't wait to see how the M2 compares!
I think BMW is losing their focus on performance cars, especially when it comes to the standard models. For years, BMWs were the standard that all competitors were compared (and won virtually every comparison test). Today, the 3-series and 4-series are being beaten by the competition. Even the 2-series is seeing major competition and struggling to win comparisons. The M3/4 are becoming quicker, but softer at the same time. They're not as focused as they used to be and trying to be a luxury car and sports car at the same time. It's one of the reasons the 1M was so well liked. Who am I to argue with what they're doing though. Isn't BMW selling more cars now that they ever have?
