http://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?whee...cl=35mm&sr=0mm In regards to scrub radius I don't fully understand it myself.. still need to do some research. However from the advice I have been given and info I have found, it is best to keep the scrub radius the same as it is by default. I believe it can be changed with camber adjustments.. |

I just put on some 19" BBS CH-Rs wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsas last week. Thinking about getting them redone in Titanium... thoughts?

I got them from a forum member for great price... so figured I could get them redone for less than what I would've spent on them brand new

Looking to fit some 19" in my 220i Sport. Thing is that I'm scared around being every week repairing tires if there's no space for enough rubber. I love 19"s but I think that 18"s are a safer option but it's also an investment so I'm still on the fence. Standard height for 220 sport. No plans on lowering it (just yet mwahahaha)

I'm not sure where to ask this but I'm slightly confused so I figured I'd come into this thread for help. I'm currently looking into the APEX EC-7s in sizes 18x8.5ET35 for the front and 18x9.5ET43 in the back but my concern is the amount of poke in the rear. I've seen people run the 45 offset in the back on the VMR wheels and I'm curious how aggressive the poke is from the top of the fender in the rear with this offset? Ideally I'd like it to be flush with the top of the fender and not poke out too and was wondering if anyone has done this or has any pictures of this or even a 45 offset from the top of the fender.

Will OZ Ultraleggeras or HLTs fit a 2015 M235i (100% stock, running staggered 225/245)?
Stock wheel specs: Front: 7.5JX18 ET:45 Rear: 8JX18 ET:52 Stock tire specs: Front: Michelin PSS 225/40R18 Rear: Michelin PSS 245/35R18 OZ UltraLeggeras ( link: http://bit.ly/2lLv1br) are 8Jx18 ET:40 all around. OZ HLT ( link: http://bit.ly/2muhXag) are 8Jx18 ET:45 all around. Tire Rack says both will work - just want to check that's true. Plan to keep same tires. Anyone have these wheels or similar? |

I got them from Tire Rack as well. One came with a big ding on the face, but a short phone call with an uploaded photo, and they had a replacement on the way the next day.

I realize the quoted post is a little dated, but I found some information that I think is pretty helpful regarding scrub radius & its effect on a car's handling & steering feel from ModernTireDealer.com. Figured this was helpful enough to bump the post/thread. Note in the quoted post, there is a link to measurements that include 0mm scrub radius. No offense to the poster - I think it's great he took the time to help & put some measurements out there as a starting point. So props for that. I am thinking it's unlikely the M235i comes with 0mm scrub radius, based on what the article indicates a 0mm scrub radius feels like, and what the article states are reasons why a RWD would have a negative or positive SR. And we really need to know that measurement to effectively estimate new wheel size/offset & tire sizes, and how various combinations could effect scrub radius, and handling/"feel". It might be obtainable from an alignment read out (?) but I couldn't find stock specs online anywhere. I don't know that scrub radius is entirely important to the every day driver, but the article did indicate that even a few millimeters movement of the scrub radius positive or negative effects steering/handling feel, especially evident at high speeds. And that's the last place a driver wants to notice a change in handling that effects one's confidence in what the front end of the car is doing & how "planted" the tires feel to the road. So if we can get really accurate OEM fender, wheelwell & suspension clearances, as well as the scrub radius, using the site SlyBy used, folks can really better understand what truly fits and the effects of wheel & tire measurements to the stock look & feel. Reading the entire article, I gathered that at a minimum, an alignment is a very good idea - if not entirely necessary - post non-OEM wheel/tire installation. From MTD's website: "On a rear-drive car, acceleration and braking forces both have the same effect on the front wheels. If scrub radius is positive (contact patch arc outboard of the pivot point), the wheels will try to toe out. "Cars with strut suspension are more likely to have a negative scrub radius, and cars with double A-arm suspension are more likely to have a positive scrub radius. Chassis engineers use scrub radius to create the feedback the driver feels through the steering wheel. If it were zero (steering pivots exactly on the center of the contact patch), the steering would feel loose, especially during acceleration and braking, because the front tires would tend to squirm like the wheels on a shopping cart. "So now we’ve seen how changing wheel offset moves the center of the contact patch inboard or outboard, which changes the scrub radius, which changes the way the car feels and handles during acceleration and braking. Before installing wheels with a different offset, you need to figure out if those wheels will increase or decrease the scrub radius so you can let the customer know how the car’s handling might change." http://www.moderntiredealer.com/arti...offset-matters

Here's my car with the wheels test fitted and BMW center caps mounted. Based on my calcs, the rims will sit about 8mm further out in the front and 10mm further out in the back. Admittedly, the wheels do look a but better in person and pictures don't seem to the slight concavity of the rim.
There's about 10mm of clearance between the wheel lip and strut housing on the front so my hope is I can eventually run a 245/35R18 square setup. I should have the OEM MPSS tires mounted here in a few weeks and will post back up. |
