First Oil Change was done at 36k Miles
Hi guys,
Bit of an update from my last thread. Bought a 2019 M240i the other day with incredibile spec and in mint condition, the servicing was all logged in iDrive and 'on time' not 'late'. But after further inspection (my own mistake) it appears the engine oil wasn't changed till it reached 36k miles. It did do a lot of miles in it's first year (24k) and has dropped down to 6-8k a year since. It was a pre reg and BMW courtesy car for it's first year from the documentation I have. Which is why it did 24k miles in it's first year. The BMW servicing documentation I have and iDrive did not log the engine oil being done at 36k as late or an issue which is very strange. I have contacted BMW to verify this. Should I be concerned? The car is at 46k miles currently, and did have another oil change at 45k recently. I don't plan on keeping it for 10 years, but do want to keep it for 5. Just hope it hasn't damaged the engine. It drives like a dream, thanks to the B58. Just wanted to know your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance. |

Seems unlikely as the car will complain every time you start it if there is a service due. Also can't imagine BMW loaning a car with a service message, does not convey the right feel, nor not doing maintenance on a car they plan to sell.

That seems unlikely. It’s more likely that the oil change(s) weren’t logged.
If you’d like some peace of mind, you can have an oil analysis done. If you really wanted to, you could do a compression test. But outside of that, you’d have to remove the valve cover at a minimum to verify the condition of the engine. If the car is running well, I’d forget about it and enjoy the car. Congrats on the purchase. |

Road signs in the UK are in miles. Speedometers show both km and miles but the miles are bigger. But yes, any BMW dealer should be able to look up the history. Perhaps more importantly, a pint in a British pub is an imperial pint, about 20 oz!

If you are concerned do an early oil change to help flush some of the contamination
Have a look through the oil cap, do you see sludge, or major discolouring ? |
