Coding a Replacement Kombi - F33
Car is a 2016 BMW 428i Convertible.
My front temperature sensor broke when we hit a hell of a pothole. I got it fixed at my local repair shop. But after it was fixed, the car battery started dying. So I got a new battery at my local repair shop. But the battery still kept dying so I went to the local "german car specialist." ~$600 in labor later, they tell me that when you break the front temperature sensor (a $40 part) it can short the Kombi (6WA) so that the Kombi never turns off. It may be that a dealer can flash the Kombi and salvage it, they say. So I go to the dealer, who charges me another $800+ try to sell me another battery, grudgingly "register" the battery put in by the local guy, fix a wire a mouse chewed which he claimed could have been the problum, rerun the same damn diagnosis as the previous guys, flash the software after I insisted, and then give me an estimate of $2,500 to replace the Kombi. With an exceptionally bad taste in my mouth, I declined and have spent the past several weeks learning all about BMW coding, EPROM wiping, etc. I now have a virginized KOMBI (6WA) dated 29.02.12 and a copy of PROTOOL which I used to inject a new CAFD file such that the new KOMBI took the VIN and mileage from the old one. There is no "tamper" dot. Factory reprogrammed the KOMBI, cleared the errors, drove the car and recharged the battery, cleared the errors again, and the car is now spitting out these errors: ZGW [ZGW_01] | 801C20: central fault memory full - no control-module fault ICMQL/RLM2L [ICM_25] | 480068: Ride height sensor, front left, measured voltage ICMQL/RLM2L [ICM_25] | 48002D: ICM, ACC: Kombi interface KOMBI [KOMB25] | No errors found CAS [FEM_20] | 8041B6: LWR system faulty This manifests as: 1. Can't turn on cruise control. 2. Warning on start that front end collision detection is off (is it?) 3. Warning on start that pedestrian detection is off (is it?) I'm wondering if since the Kombi I got predates the build of the car, it might just not have the circuits to handle the safety package and cruise control package which the rest of the car is trying to synch with it? Or, alternatively (and the reason I am posting here), I am wondering if there are coding parameters that I can adjust to cause the replacement Kombi to identify and work with these systems. Any suggestions, new friends? |
