Are our alloys.....
...more "delicate" than previous bimmers? I ask bc I have 2 alloys that are in need of straightening. My previous bimmer, a 2001 330Ci, alloy never needed any work except refinishing.
I'd like to hear your opinions and experiences. |

The style 313s on my '11 335 needed straightening occasionally over the 4 years I ran them. The VMRs I replaced them with were better, even though they were not forged. Wheel design probably has some effect.
Also if you have run-flats I suspect those are harder on the wheels as well (transferring more impact energy to the wheel rather than absorbing it), but that is just my theory. |

I don't know the answer, but my RF 436 hit a major hole on the interstate at ~60 MPH, and I expected it or the tire to immediately exhibit some sign of distress. That didn't happen, so I continued on for another 65 miles.
I removed and examined the wheel and tire when I got to my destination, and there was no sign of damage to either one. That surprised me, as it was the hardest I'd ever hit the far edge of a pothole in any car. Considering the condition of so many roads and highways today, I'd say the 436 is a wheel built well enough to give its owners at least a decent amount of confidence that they'll hold up to what's out there.

Complaints of "soft" wheels started with the E30 3-series!

No. I don’t believe the cast wheels are less durable than the cast wheels on an e36 M3. Wheel design definitely has a primary effect on wheel strength. BMW has more recently released some nice forged wheels on the f8x with my favorite being the 513M. The wheels on our ‘18 m240ix are still bent free
