F22 Spoiler Options
Hi all,
I have really wanted a carbon spoiler to complete the look of my m235i, has anyone had positive experiences with using anything other than OEM cf? How was the fitment, how was the ordering experience. Pictures welcomed! |

I've had this one on for a little over a year now. Very happy with the looks, quality, and fitment. All the no name ones around this price point are all probably made in the same factory somewhere.

Looks fine, but I have always been a big fan of the original Gurney flap that came with the car. It is very elegant and unobtrusive. Is there any solid evidence that a more prominent protuberance has any value beyond the obvious Freudian satisfaction?

as my car didn't come with a spoiler I chose one that was pleasing to my eye! yet has a practical purpose, its common knowledge that the addition of a spoiler helps with reducing the trapped air that tries to raise the rear of your vehicle, reducing grip on the road. By preventing or greatly reducing lift the with addition of a spoiler improves airflow and therefore vehicle performance and efficiency albeit by some small measure but the bigger the wing the more downforce you'll get, so its not just ascetics although they are a big part of it.

Ducktail spoilers like that can also create a bit of downforce giving you a bit more grip than not having one at all but we’re really splitting hairs here performance wise.

The actual benefit of a spoiler like a huge wing will barely be noticeable at highway speeds, and you'll likely be going in a straight line at that point, just enjoy the appearance.
Good looking car Oltimer, appreciate seeing the pics through the years. |

Agree with freakystyly.......typically, you only gain substantive benefits when the wing is exposed to higher velocity airflow. The design of the F22 is, essentially, a notchback and the airflow behind the rear window and along the trunk is pretty minimal/dead. A spoiler or low wing has minimal impact. A wing would need to be exposed to the airflow coming from the roofline. Look at the wings on race cars run, for instance, in IMSA....note the height and width.

Additional thought.....you would probably gain more benefit by doing something with the airflow coming across the bottom of the car........where the more completely covered the area, the increased suction can improve 'grip'. As an example, I had several Porsche Caymans and the bottom is almost completely covered.

Spoiler alert
The addition of a moderate spoiler to my vert substantially decreased dirt collected by low pressure at the back. YMMV
I also run modded 1 series mudflaps for the same reason. |

Lately I see school buses with rear airfoils all the time. Not for downforce, but exactly what you say. https://seeiiairfoils.com/ |
