hiding scratches ***RESOLVED-HELL YEAH!!!***
had me thinking on fine scratches, which you dont really dont wanna respray and wont buff out
various youtube hacks, including WD40, which I believe only works to fill the scratch as an optical illusion, does it last till it rains lol or next car wash how about a good wax, enough to cover, to at least prevent raping your eyes ? I'm guessing ceramic coatings are not about this kinda fix thoughts ? Last edited by nazali; 05-13-2023 at 01:13 PM.. |

I've gotten worse than fine scratches out with Mother's scratch remover. Fine scratches will definitely "buff" out with the right compound; starting with the least abrasive one possible.
The compounds usually work by removing the nearly microscopic hard edge of the scratches so light doesn't catch them. If it's any worse to where you can feel your fingernail catch it can typically mean stepping up from there.

Well it's tiny fractions of an inch of clear coat coming off every time you machine it.. so once will cause irreversable damage if you want to think of it that way. Happy detailing
You can go down the paint thickness gauge rabbit hole if you're worried about that kind of stuff but I haven't seen BMW clear coats fail like mid 2000 Civics. |

It's definitely a case by case basis and every scratch is unique. When most people talk about detailing their cars, they mean those micro scratches from looking at the car the wrong way, not actual gouges in the paint work. Things like that are best left to the pros.
Hope it works out, respraying panels is pricey. |

txs ! freaky and yes agreed, majority of the marks are clear coat 3 I think are to far deep
I'm also not a fan of resprays, sometimes they just spray over the scratch and tough you can't see it, you can see the dip in the paint and good paint shops are expensive and hard to find. BUT the big balls, is that even if I lavish a proper job on the whole car, nothing to say some toe rag in a few months wont key me up again seriously, just leave cars the fuq alone this is the one part of owning a nice shiny car, or a new car, or high end, people don't "umm and ahh" and say oh nice car I want one, they think that you must be selling drugs or rich and then carve you up |

maybe it's just Canada, but in the UK, I had multiple cars including brand new company cars my beautiful Indian Red 944 cab never got touched and I lived in a VERY rough part of town, I even got burgled once that's how bad it was, but no-one ever sliced my car up

I am in the happiest mood ever, forget a threesome, first time you got laid, passing your driving test.... my car is fixed,.... "BAR" one line which is through to the paint, after a thorough wash my guy, found multiple scratches ALL over the car, Bumper scratch, Door gouge, paint blister on the hood and ice scraper stuff.
ALL FU*****G gone, or at the very least, hidden WELL, the dude is a master magician no a "Goddamn sexual tyranasaurus" I paid about $500 for a 4 stage polish and wax and shine, from the onset he made me think he'll do his best, but was not sure. JEEZ I went in hoping for a 50-60% job, I mean if it's through the clear, I don't know how or what he did, but I am happy as a pig in shit ! Pictures to follow |

Thanks Mike,
in the invoice it says he also used some kind of "special" ceramic coat", I don't think he did, some kinda temp one, if that's possible as I still have scratches, and he mentioned he can do a cramic, but the scratches need to be painted properly. Anyway the body is smooth as butter, car keeps getting covered in pollen, but at least I can go out with the duster and get that off, falls right off |

A glaze has fillers that can temporarily fill/minimize scratches.

ok makes sense, could be the reasno he said not to wash the car for at least a week ?
I'll see how it goes, if it's just a matter of adding a glaze, that might be the way to go Do I Need To Apply Glaze? It's never absolutely necessary to apply a glaze so it can be done as little as you would like or as much as you would like. For best results we recommend applying a glaze during a full detail, therefore it would be after washing, clay and polishing and before your sealant and/or wax. At a minimum make sure the vehicle has been freshly washed, apply the glaze and lastly apply the sealant and/or wax of your choice |
