downpipe mod possible
i have a 2018 f23 convertible with the b46 engine.. i am thinking of doing a downpipe upgrade..vsrf looks to be the best option but i see online that there are two types catted and non catted, either one WILL trip a C.E.L. so with that knowledge why cant i just remove my oem downpipe and gut the restictive crap in it and just reinstall it? If a new downpipe will throw a code, what would be the difference or will this cause serious issues??

Both will trigger the check engine light
if you are looking for a downpipe that does not trigger the check engine light, the only option is the Active Autowerke catted downpipe

I'm sure there is but I'm not familiar with spacers, you'd need to check on Ebay / amazon

Lol... Why would you try that? Gut the downpipe when that's what's they sell, it's way too simple. Plus what's sold on the secondary market is more open and therefore less restrictive than even the stock diameter pipe even if it were empty. Fact is it's the lower restriction on the airflow that causes the CEL, because it becomes higher than anticipated by the ECU program. You can "TRY" a spacer, but it's a crapshoot!
There's some facts you need to accept when deciding to "MOD" your engine or drivetrain. General Rule: Cheap/Fast/Reliable Put your finger over the one of these you don't want and see what you are left with, that's what you'll get! Fast/Reliable isn't Cheap Cheap/Fast isn't Reliable Reliable/Cheap isn't Fast Chose wisely! Opening your exhaust, making it less restrictive creates better engine response and increases HP. Only slightly unless the engine and it's control is "Tuned" to take advantage of the increased airflow. Then you're left with opening the output without opening the "Input"... This is the other side of modding. That you'll need to do some things that you weren't planning for in order to maximize the benefit you're trying to achieve. Then when adding "Fast" you should undoubtedly then upgrade your "Braking" accordingly! See how this works? But hey, get busy and get those honeycombs out of there, take lots of pics and let us know how it goes hehehe... Many a new paths have been opened up by those brave souls looking to travel the path untaken Or just buckle up and spend some $ and take an hour or so of time, that otherwise you're trying to do will take 10x that and not achieve the results you're looking for. Just trying to save you some pain, and time, and in all probability, some $ too. Good Luck! |
